Allotment day today , rather than garden image

  • A none gardening day today, feeling weak, and the weather has been damp to say the least. Hope to be back out tomorrow.

  • On Allotment yesterday lifted the Late spud Mozart (new variety)  red skinned quite good yield -bit of damage here & there but not too shabby. Had to keep dodging the showers got to go back to wash dry & bag them up today, had to leave them in wheelbarrow in shed overnight.

O/h had been tidying up g/h and moving out door toms inside , just took spent compost to allotment

Yesterday I audited Local garden club a/c's , counts as gardening I think image

  • Yes, it does GWRS, even garden clubs need accountants. All good work to encourage the amateur to improve their gardening skills.

Sorting large, old concrete pots that need another lick of paint before I plant up with bulbs for next Spring.  I am not a fan of concrete pots but they were left over from the tomato industry and I hate to see them going to waste and then splash out at the GC on something similar in a shinny colour. I'd rather spend the money on new bulbs.

Dead heading dahlias and picking up apple windfalls this afternoon.

Oh no! The wind has made a real mess. Have come down to find my runner bean stand completely twisted and on its side.  Everything looking really bashed.

I can see what my jobs for the weekend will be! A mega tidy up session!

The metal is completely twisted! I wonder if I can get a refund?? Would have thought it should stand up to the UKs weather. Only had it three years.

  • Oh dear Tootles, did you manage to fix or get a refund?

I didn't do much on my job list today, it was just so nice outside for a change so I messed about in the garden instead.

Got some stuff moved and planted, planted up under my standard cotoneaster, took a risk in moving two hostas there (the middle of my front garden) they were chewed to bits this year, next year might be drier hopefully. Mixed them up with 3 yellow kniphofia, random hesperantha and some polemonium I grew from seed of a white plant. Actually though it doesn't matter if they turn out to be blue.

Started taking the plants out from under a persicaria Firedance, I thought it might share the area with some other bits and bobs but not so. Decided to get rid of an astilbe I've got bored of, I could probably rejuvenate by splitting but I'm just not that keen on it anymoreimage

Planted an everlasting pea at the base of my big cotoneaster shrub. Soil is very dry there but I'll see how it gets on. Sowed some borage seeds in the area. Need more honeybee plants as I've got rid of all the willowherb so also sowed some white clover.

Had a daff delivery earlier this week. I ordered them in Spring and since then decided to move the garden around so most have lost their allotted spaces. Had fun deciding where to put them, planted some in a pot to plant out next year and put 5 in the ground. That's 15 of 125 planted, but it's only Sept after allimage

Decided which roses to get this winter. Had my eye on Julia's Rose all year and then suddenly changed my mind. I've only got space for 2 but wondering if I could cram a third in.

Ordered tonnes of bird food and some new feeders. Someone, hopefully the hedgehog, is eating loads of hog food at the moment. I'm going to put two bowls out tonight. It has turned cold though I think, 4' one morning this week.☃️

You have been busy Victoria! Where do you get your energy?!

i managed to fix the frame with the help of my other half and some pliers! Yay!

Is Plox Bavaria a perennia? It looks lovely.

Today I have toyed with buying plants but no real work in the garden.  Our gravel drive is full of weeds so working up the energy and patience to deal with them!
