Used a mattock to remove a few stubborn roots which were missed by the grinder from where I had a 10m privet hedge removed in the front garden. That warmed me up nicely in the bone-chilling wind! Then put in 5 fence posts and screwed on the horizontals for the trellis I'm building which will replace the hedge. Added some fish, blood and bone to help replenish the soil. Looking forward to finishing the trellis tomorrow before adding 30 x 50l bags of FYM to the 'new' slightly raised flower bed below. I'll add a couple of barrows of excess soil from my veg plot too, knowing that will be full of worms.
I love doing physical work at this time of the year once I get started. The problem I have these days is it does take a bit longer to get started!
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
I no longer have the strength for much physical work in the garden, so end up shivering & sniveling, a nice warm drink soon revives me. We managed to put a trellis up against our cottage wall ready for the lovely climbing Masquerade rose and perhaps a new clematis too for next year. Marked out pond shape ready for digger to do it's work next w/end, moved a few pots and troughs and the garden bench. Hibernated the tortoises and cleared their house and run.

Hello everybody . Been reading this forum for a while , and as you all seem a friendly enough bunch thought I would take the plunge and join in .
Today has been fairly productive for me down on my allotment , did lots of tidying up , digging and turning over the compost bins . Just the sort of stuff to be doing on a cold but at times lovely sunny autumn day . Dug some leeks which will be turned into leek and potato soup for lunch . After that will spend the rest of the day lounging about , with OH's permission of course .

I potted on some kale plants.
Well put it this way Runnybeak - I gave my opinion of one or two of the above, but the roses and tortoises are definitely my domain.

started gathering together bits and pieces to create a raised woodland bed.
I like your idea of a woodland raised bed and see you have some plants ready for it.
