Tidied up before the storm sets in. Garden is a mess.
Finished painting the shed. Hopefully.
Planted a dahlia and a viola my daughter bought, and a holly I found a few weeks ago.
Tried to clear the drain for the main gutter of mud and leaves to no effect. Worried we're going to get flooding again this weekend. That drain usually over flows and runs toward the drain in front of the garage. The garage one clogs up with leaves and he garage floods...oh well
Trimmed the neighbours tree a bit and my russet apple tree a bit more.
Moved all the garden furniture and potted plants into more sheltered areas.
Here the men have been rotatilling the veg patches. My dad would have dug them over a few months but these guys want everything done NOW rather than stretching the job out over the winter. The plan is to cover the soil with plastic sheeting over the winter. Little often is my motto, but hey ho.
I have been dead heading, picking up fallen stuff and now relaxing inside.
I LURVE Picalli!, good job Hubby put metal stakes in the arch he made, even the really heavy solid wood 8 foot tall arbour fell over in the wind, luckily onto my wildflower bit which has finnished for the year, narrowly missing the perenial bed and fruit tress!
I thought they weren't good to pick until after a frost but noticed some had started to wither. Ordered a jar as I don't have one big enough for the sugar and gin as well.
Unpacked some bare root wallflowers, they don't look good, was at work and then away so they've been in the box too long. Got them soaking but still...
A good crop of sloes Victoria. We usually pick them in late September or October, they are very popular over here and there are plenty growing on the cliffs and in the lane hedgerows.
Good luck with the wallflowers, I hope they perk up now that you have given them a drink.
No gardening here apart from picking up fallen apples, pine cones and twigs. Too wet to do anything more.
Thanks GD, I might have misread the bit about the frost.
I think I only have two bushes in the mixed hedge and haven't picked them all so I'll get another two for the allotment and that should be more than sufficient, originally thought I might need a row to get a decent amount.
I left the wallflowers soaking overnight, will put them temporarily in a pot as they are for the allotment as well. Then I will hope for the best...
That sounds like a good plan Victoria. You must post a picture when the wallfl. are in fl. next year.
Nothing much done by me in the garden today - feeling out of sorts again. It's a nuisance but I just have to admit defeat and rest up.
However OH started to cut back ivy which has grown far too much over the past few years. It is coming from behind the wall, climbing up and over the wall - about 10 - 15 feet in total. We have waited until after it flowered to cut it back and have just cut from the ground level so the ivy can die off naturally. We don't want to upset nature so we thought that this was the best time of year to cut it back, as the flowers have finished and the birds aren't nesting in it now. We realize that there will be insects over wintering in the ivy but it isn't cold yet and hopefully they will still have time to move and make other dens. Well that is what I thought.
Hope you are feeling better GD, no gardening here, fine rain all day, grass too wet to cut, checked seedlings in greenhouse and watered them thats about it.

Leaf clearing which will be regular task for a while.
