Did a small amount in the jardin today, wanted to move some things but it is too hot even though the ground is still damp.
Planted out the last of the cosmos and lavatera in some gaps, I'm sure there's time left for them to flower. Also poked some nasturtium seeds into baskets and pots, they were supposed to be planted by May, but we'll see - it's an experiment...
Ordered some seeds in Mr F's sale, if anyone is using the weekend postage free code (and buying seeds), don't, the free packet offer still applies on the £1 sale packs and is a better offer.
Started planning my spring bulb requirement...getting excited for spring
Picked my first peas of the year. They are actually mange tout that have gone over and they are much better than my normal peas.
Planted lobina mintata (Italian flag?) climbers in an empty bed that had broad beans in it. Looked them up and they're annuals which is a bit disappointing as they are lovely. Will just have to plant seeds again next year.
Tomatoes are coming on nicely. Cut some of the leaves back that were blocking light.
Pinned down some strawberry runners too. All in all a lovely day.
I have not done much outside today apart from the necessary watering - I hate feeling energy deficient but guess I had overdone the gardening and pond work over the past few weeks. So I am enjoying the tennis entertainment on the t.v. - which is normally banned (my choice) during the day.
Hopefully normal energy will resume soon. Are your potatoes main crop or mids GWRS?
Just got front & back grass cut before light rain started. Not been on (this) site much recently spending all my time watering Allotments & Garden. I know we have too many pots which need water all the time even if it does rain! Apart from watering & a bit hoeing of been cropping a lot from plots, but in this heat that is all I have been able to do. Looking forward to a cool down this week to get more done.
Spent a good day in garden , cleaned conservatory gutters this morning , not exactly gardening but you need a reasonable day to do it , one down pipe completely blocked , put some chicken wire in it
Afternoon , cut down Orential poppies to see if I get a second growth , trimmed most of hedges , need to get long handled cutter out tomorrow afternoon to finish of , few other summer pruning done , garden waste bin totally full , good job being emptied tomorrow
Funnily enough, was going to cut down my oriental poppies, collected the seeds from a couple have got some stuff to go in where they were flowering, but discovered new shoots and buds on them, never seen that before,Japanese anemone and eryngium from Hampton Court, its our Wedding Anniversary tomorrw bought Hubby 2 "blue" roses, one which I saw at HC last week, and a repeat flowering one both nicely scented a festuca which is really blue,, but new shed came so fence behind is rotten, (its not actually "ours" to replace!!) but has to be done from our side and once the shed is up, it will be impossible to put up.Grass needs cutting but is "full" of fence panels and stuff that conservatory blokes have left, (soffits, etc starting tomorrow on gable ends) So, apart from watering I cant get at anything to "do".Normally, have a BBQ today for our anniversary, but house and garden is a building site!
