Thanks for your reply Verdun , I think I will follow what you do, makes it easier to have them potted and ready to go. Should they be lightly watered during the winter months?
Had a good spell on my small patch yesterday I sowed 3 different verities of the broad bean Luz de Otono &de Monica & valence ana anew one to me I used to for years only grow the Aquadulce verity I have found the first two are at least 2/3 weeks earlier I'm always interested in what other gardeners grow what are the verities you have sown Devon from above? Have also after seeing a fellow attender of the soil took some dahlia cuttings to overwinter At this time my dahlias are still in full bloom we have had no frosts up to now (had one at Aberfoyle last Wednesday ) if as this year I have grown them in a sheltered position I shall leave them in position well protected by a good covering of peat and lift them on my return from Tenerife end of next Feb The over wi
Will be off out in the garden very shortly but just wanted to ask I have Salvia Blue Queen and Lysimachia Beaujolais that I sowed at the end of August and they are now strong plants in 3" pots.
I live on the south coast in Hampshire and very rarely get an hard frost, do you think I could plant these into the border now or should I overwinter as they are and plant in the spring?
I did see Monty sow hardy perennials at the same time but he never follows up on what to do next
Do you have enough to plant half out and pot on the other half into 4" pots and keep sheltered? That way you have the possibility of the planted ones getting a good start if the winter is kind and the others as insurance if it isn't.
