Did I tell you that OH pulled up all the white cosmos from the new Sunny Bed yesterday? Now we can see the tall beautiful grasses properly, along with the Rudbeckia Goldsturm, Aster Little Carlow and Salvia Wendy's Wish. The Geranium Rozanne is having a second flush after having been chopped back, and the Ceratostigma wilmottianum Forest Blue is putting on a good show, having been rescued from the 'nearly dead' shelf this time last year.
Having this new bed where I can have lovely rich colours has changed what I need from the Shady Bank - I'm going to take some of the strugglers out and replace them with ferns and Alchemilla mollis - that way I can cut the Alchemilla back at this time of year and let the Cyclamen hederifolium really show off. At the moment a lot of them are hidden by stuff that doesn't really earn its keep at any time of year.
However, what the Shady Bank does need is some formal verticals - there's a high fence (8 ft plus) behind it and we're in a bit of a valley anyway, so for most of the year it gets no sun at all. The fence is covered with Clematis alpinas and honeysuckles. What the bed needs is some structure up to about 5 ft tall. Any ideas folks? I might have to do a thread with photos, but that'll be later ... got stuff to do this morning ...

Oh dear! Both Lirio and SGL with coughs and sore throats, get well soon you two!
Lilyp, your sweet peas lasted longer than mine! Although they were gorgeous And romped away, they got covered in green aphids and were too close to the house for the birds to munch them off! I pulled and replaced them yonks ago!
Lesley, my winter wardrobe has made an appearance, wooly jumper dresses, wooly tights and boots is a regular thing now. Gloves are the next step!
Clari, I'm trying to picture your polite smile! Lol you will have to give us a demo!
Hosta, I agree about the heating, hubby sleepily suggested the next tog up duvet exchange today! I don't disagree!
Dove, love the sound of the garden changes, gonna have to come for a visit and have a look!
Joyce, the Trump debate is frightening and not going to help you sleep! They do say that Trumps are better out than in!
Good luck with the new car GWRS, travel safely
Been tidying in the garden and swotting up on shrub knowledge. Back to work tomorrow on light duties for a month. Hope everyone is having a good day, best wishes!
Hi everyone. Lots of chit chat so I can't remember it all. Love the garden arrangement, Wonky. Had a couple of laughs about dog fussy eating. You should try a 4kg poodle. It's hard enough to tempt her with anything but with a CAT in residence invading her private territory , she wasn't having any temptations thank you very much. Appetite has suddenly improved now that the invader has gone.
strange as it may seem, I noticed tonight that I could still see outside at 6pm. It's been some time since I could see anything after about 5pm And this morning the sun was a problem blinding me when I was trying to have a bit of extra kip. Opposites seem to be working again.
good wishes to those feeling a bit off - shoulders and sore throats Etc.
Hubby had a look on line after the suggestion of a CM detector and said there are plenty on eBay. I might have a sniff around a couple of shops tomorrow while he is at the chiropractor. There are two basic types I gather, one that can sit on a desk or a hand held one that you can walk around with. Any suggestions? We only have the fire in the living area - not the bedrooms, so possibly the desk type is better for us.
Evening all. Good to see you RB. Hope thing are ok
Shame you couldn't have done a bit more sightseeing in Italy, Lantana. I love it and want to go back a few more times - one day perhaps. The architecture is stunning, and even the most unreligious person on earth (that would be me) is turned to mush when you enter those cathedrals. I get emotional just thinking about them.
Just had a thought re your shady bank Dove. Tricky to find verticals for structure there, but those pillar yews are good. Cryptomerias - more of a cone but you can trim them. If you don't need them to be evergreens, how about Acteas? (Cimcifuga)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
My polite smile has shown considerable signs of strain.
At the AGM the first question I was asked was
"who are you?" Turns out I wasn't on the list!
Next question was
"where's the ambulance?"
Oh! So you WE'RE expecting me then! But no one told me to bring the ambulance (apparently the only reason we'd be 'invited' to attend was to bring the vintage ambulance). Boss for some reason isn't answering his phone at this point.
Still it was a good meeting, lunch was provided but not a single item was gluten free judging by the migraine I am coming down with. How you get gluten in a tablespoon of potato salad (enough to look polite and stop questions of why aren't you eating) and an apple I found which may or may not have been intended as a table decoration I have no idea.
Time to get changed and see what jobs I can put off today!
Evening all, been at bit of a long time since I was last here. prison was fine (just joking)
Actual been a little unwell the last few month but all OK now so they tell me unfortunately the garden has not progressed very much still a bit of a jungle but it has given me lots of time to wander around and make plans.
Hope to get back and finish clearing the ground at least the ground will be soft after all the rain.

I agree with you re the debate Dove. . . . another two to go and hopefully some of those 'over the pond' will see sense.
Rain has stopped. Blue sky and sun now.
