  • Yes it would be good if everyone made an attempt to keep their verges tidy - however that'd be easier for some than others, eh Wonky? image

Morning all and afternoon Pat image

Having an early visit from a friend before she flies out to Italy, so had to get up before my usual time.

Hazel - we are fortunate that the council sprays along the pavements in the spring.

    WHY?

The bombing of the aid convoy leaves me disgusted and bewildered at such inhumanity.

    Morning all.

Awake at 6.15!! What's that all about?

No neck pain last night. I reckon it was the sieving of several tons of slate chippings.image

Plus side of the day. I have officially lost 3 1/2 stones.image

I think it was Obelixx who said, "don't fixate on weight, look at size". I've had to put another new hole in my belt which means I've lost 6" from my waistline, but it's nice when the scales agree.

Coalface at 12 so might get a bit of gardening done before then.

Verges???? hhmm. Tricky one in the country. Around here there's a fine line between " tidy" and "hideously suburban" I'm happy to leave the cow parsley but some of my neighbours seem to need to mow everything . Once or twice a year the farmer does it and I strim it back if it's unruly between times.

Morning all/afties Pat when you appear  image

I think it's about shape too Hosta. I work with someone who has real food issues. She can't get away from the  'I lost a pound last night at my class', and endlessly cutting food out completely and being obsessed with it. Her life revolves round it. Eating well and sensibly, and being realistic about it is important.

I like a tidy edge, verge, roadside, but I think it depends where you are. An urban location should always be tidier I think. Our roads are kept quite well, but I do all the kerb edging where my boundary meets the pavement. I hate seeing scruffy weeds on hard surfaces. Plenty of greenery elsewhere. I wish all householders would keep their immediate 'area' tidy. It raises the standard.

Can't let something like compassion and humanity get in the way of a war, Joyce. What on earth are you thinking....

    Vile indeed. image

Better go and get ready for t'mill. Have a good day everyone.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I had an early morning too, today. Hubby had his Toyota booked in to have a "thing" fitted to the vehicle that is supposed to prevent moisture getting into the fuel system like we experienced on our last trip to Canberra. So, up at 6 am, groan, and into town for an 8am appointment. Never mind it's all done now.

Tidy verges - makes me think. It sounds very nice, but I can't imagine it here. image  The regular things we see are lambs climbing through fences to graze whatever they can find, and empty beer bottles which suspected husbands toss out the car window before they get home to their caring wives and children. image

Our son's plane has taken off from China. Hubby has been tracking. He is expected back in Sydney tomorrow morning, then bus to Canberra (another 4 hours) and to get collected by our daughter at lunch time Wednesday.  I think he will need a bit of sleep when he gets home.image

Hazel - I have reading glasses all over the house and a specially strong pair in my sewing box for doing embroidery and patchwork.

Pat - you're going to miss the cat!

Well done Hosta for sleep and inches loss.   I like country verges to be a bit wild and have their Flanders poppies and ox-eyes and cow parsley but I keep the edge next to teh footpath mowed or we end up with no path.  The council hasn't maintained the road edges further up and the grass has expanded so there are no more surface drains so water just runs down the road and then, in winter, freezes into a skating rink - all for the want of a bit of verge maintenance.

Item on Radio 4 news this morning about marauding cats - the domestic cat is no longer a detrmined, skillful predator and the stuff they kill in the UK is usually sick and not destined to live long anyway.  Yes - someone has researched it.   The trick is to keep domestic cats indoors at night so the nocturnal life can get on in peace.

I have to take OH to the station so he can have a farewell lunch with former colleagues and then he'll stay on to have a farewell dinner with an old friend and colleague from his golf club and need a lift hme from teh station.   That leaves me in peace t do a last coat of paint on Possum's chairs and sort some more fabric.........
