Possum took her driving test in January and now knows all about driving positions and road rules and so on.  Apparently we should be near enough to the pedals never to have a straight leg and the upper body upright and close enough to the wheel to be able to put our wrists on the top and let our hands flop down.

Doesn't do for me but I do find that having the seat fairly raised and the back supporting my lower back means I can drive for hours without back strain.   Can't have the seat too upright in warm weather cos I often have a butterfly clip holding up my hair and it's just too irritating when it catches on the head rest.  However, no matter what I do, long drives these days do leave my knees and hips feeling stiff when I first get out again.

Playing good music makes the journey seem less long and also keeps me awake and alert.

Cool and grey here but trying to brighten up.  I've had to put the summer duvet back on the bed as I got cold lying in and reading the papers.   Now to finish patching Possum's shorts and mending my favourite garden trousers before tackling Possum's new dining chairs which need another coat of paint and then packing.

Chappy delivered a ton of packing cartons and clothes hanging dooberries and plate, glass and picture frame boxes yesterday.  Just got the garage cleared of a dozen big boxes of books and stuff for Oxfam and now its chokka again!

Still no real rain here so garden looking bright and colourful except where it's going brown.  Wish it would rain.  I have plants to lift still and they're bone dry.

    Have a good Sunday everyone.

Obelixx you're so busy all the time.  Hopefully you'll be able to relax and do things at a slower pace once you're happily installed in the new house.  I empathise with the getting out of the car scenario.  I often do a four hour journey and have a  halfway break.  When it was raining I thought I could just run in to the service station.  No way could I straighten up before I reached the door.

Dove I've the same problem with redesigning a bedimage.  I want most of the plants there but hate the 'takeover' bid of the rudbeckias.  Too tall for the position and doesn't go with the softer colours.  I currently have eight lists of optionsimage.

    home for lunch.

    You're all very kind . x

I think the problem might be all the slate chippings I've dug, sieved and moved. I think it might be standing, shaking the heavy garden sieve side to side which has strained shoulders / neck.

I tend to stand at the kiosk as I can never get the seats on " mainline" checkouts to the right height.

Hubby is stopping off at Home Bargains with list of bulbs to collect. Bless'im.

Home at 4 and I'm aiming to get some grass cut. No point aiming to get it done in one hit these days. Too dewy in the mornings for that nonsense.

Wonky I hope you're feeling better todayimage.  The labelling of dahlia colours didn't quite happen but I did take a few photos so I remember which are- peachy pink, yellowy pink, reddish pink, reddish burgandy, and so it goes.  I really want to rip everything out and start again.  Food for thought,  Roast pork and crackling, roast pots, veg and apple sauce.  Should think better after thatimage.

    tee hee.

I thought it was just me who got to a certain stage of the season then became gripped by " rip it all out and start again" fever.

    Clearly not.

You won't be able to move after that meal Lesley....image

I forgot you'd been grafting with your slate etc Hosta. I'm sure it's a big factor. I'm always in more pain after doing things in the garden than I am after walking, even if there's a  two and a half hour drive before and after.  Music is a must obelixx - I had  some loud Tom Petty on the way home yesterday. Peaceful, gentle James Taylor is a delight on the way there, but would have made me too sleepy on the way back  image

I got some alliums and crocus at HB last week Hosta. Just been planting them in the new border. Very cheap and look decent enough quality. I've planted some of my new alliums from Peter Nyssen too, and made space for others in the raised bed, after ripping out a geranium which was just a filler. It's a bit of a weed, but useful. I really need to go out front and lift turf - I keep putting it off...image

When I went to pick up my hamamelis last week I treted myself to some packets of allium Purple Sensation and Christophii plus nectorascordums and daff Thalia - just to be sure I have some of my favourites to plant.  I'm assuming I'll be able to grow taller tulips now but will take some of my botanicals just in case.

I have been listening to Bridge Over Troubled Water a lot this week - wiping out a few off harmonies from the otherwise enjoyable show at Great Malvern - The Story of Simon and Garfunkel with lots of slides and short videos on the back screen bringing back memories and making me realise what amazing times I have lived through since my childhood - Elvis, USA civil rights, Martin Luther King, Kennedy and Nixon, Cuban missile crisis, Beatles, Bob Dylan, Vietnam, flower power, moon landings and that's just up to 1970 and BOTW!

Whole leg of lamb now slow roasting in the oven with herbs and garlic and white wine to be joined by roast parsnips and green veggies of some sort then damson crumble.   Not planning to move afterwards cos Victoria is on.

I was so engrossed that I didn't noticed the rain had started so washing got soaked image

Lesley, Hosta, I've four pages of redesigned doodles of moving just about every plant in the entire garden, so far I've moved two image this could take a while, still unsure about final placements and all are likely to be subject to reconsideration image

Obelixx, i hope you get some rain soon, preferably at night, to ease the digging up of the treasures that you intend to rescue from chickens! image
