I've had too much wine, but enjoyed a lovely evening reading my bookclub book ready for friday on the terrace. Elated to have Charlie with me, even more elated to have him sound asleep .
Hosta, make no apology, life is definitely not a rehearsal. Good to be reminded once in a while.
I'm not stupid (honestly) but tonight finally worked out how to switch on my solar powered lanterns, only taken 3 weeks.

Back from the family marathon and baking hot. 31C as we drove inland from Calais. Dogs, cat and hoomans all happy to be home.
We've just watched last week's GBBO and enjoyed it as usual. I do hope Channel 4 don't mess with the formula. Stupid Beeb for losing it. We always tape it anyway as we're usually out at dance class so will continue to watch it as a recording to escape the ads.
Well done DD. Seems like you're settling into your new life very well with plenty more big and small steps and triumphs to come.
Fairy - I'm impressed with your gate hanging exploits.
I have Marie-Christine coming tomorrow afternoon so 5 hours of gardening - gathering treasures for us both whilst making sure this garden looks good for the new people so I'm of fto bed for a restorative sleep - I hope.
Sweet dreams all - especially those with worries or health problems or naughty shoulders and other aches and pains.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

OH and I are just back having spent a lovely evening with a couple of friends, putting the world to rights over a pint or three - among topics dealt with were dogs, Ipswich Town FC in the '80s and the English education system.
Now we're just finishing off with toast and Marmite ... then we'll be climbing up that wooden hill to Bedfordshire ..........sweet dreams everyone
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
That sounds really lovely Dove. Just the way to spend an evening.
Your talk about your preserves reminded me that I've still got heaps in my cupboard.
There won't be space for this summer's harvest unless we start to make inroads. The freezer is full also. The trouble is that we eat fresh from the garden most of the year, so our preserved stuff just accumulates.
Back home now from a truly wonderful trip Can't resist one last postcard, of the most bonkers church I have ever seen, and its interior, which had every inch covered in mosaics
Trip home was good - always seems very strange that you can spend a morning running round foreign streets and climbing cathdral steps (worth it for the view) and still be home in time to water the GH before the sun goes down.
And now ......gotta go to work
Have only done a skimread catch up - Big hugs for those who need them (())
Glad you've had such a lovely trip chicky. Another gorgeous couple of photos.
DD - I now have a vision of you stumbling around inthe dark, cursing loudly and saying 'where's the chuffing switch to put these lights on...'
Hope the shoulder's a bit better today Dove.
Channel 4 ye gods. Hopeless tarts...
However - it's not as bad as soemthing I read yesterday. Tea in a can. You squirt it in and add water or some such nonsense. What is happening to the world?
I'm off to live in a cave...
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
