My local GC has no power and no card machine. image  The man there has a pencil and a notebook. There is a constant stream of folk running off down the road to the money machine like little junkies. image

  • Magnums remind me of my hip surgeries! I'm needle phobic but had to inject myself in the stomach each day after surgery for a month, the only way I could do it was to bribe myself! Husband would get me a magnum from th freezer and I'd tell myself I couldn't have it until I'd done the injection. So I'd put it against my stomach for a moment or two to numb the skin, quickly do the injection and then enjoy the magnum as my reward for managing to be an adult!

Not done too much today, watched the police helicopter hovering over our garden for a while (a very rare occurrence here, so I was like an excited child wondering why they were there, maybe they were admiring my garden, haha!) popped to another local Wyevale picked up some bargains, planted up the new dogwoods, and had lunch. Couldn't believe how much better the Wyevale was today compared to the other one that is equidistant to my home, first time I've visited that one and I think it'll be my regular one now. Got some plants for myself and mum, but the best bargains were the elho trough planters I picked up for mum, reduced from £16 to £1. She's really chuffed with them!

I managed to fall on my backside twice whilst turning the soil over for the dogwoods.......right in front of potential new neighbours! At least they've seen the true me from the start! Didn't help my hip flare up though, so currently dosed up on naproxen and taking it easy on the sofa.

Yvie - don't want to worry you but, someone already started a thread with that C word in it...image

Was going to say - 'I hate to tell you', but that particular ship's already sailed as some of you may know...image

Pp - I didn't get the battenburg cake reference. Am I just thick ? Don't answer that...

Car back - not too much damage to the bank balance thankfully. I now have two bulk bags of gravel which will need shifting. Sigh. He was a very grumpy little delivery man too. Couldn't get them both where I wanted them, because someone had parked their car at exactly the bit he needed to get into, so one has been plonked on the bit of border where I'm working. Just as well everything sitting there was in pots and I could move them. Two shrubs have taken a bit of grief though. They're tough things so should be ok....image

Hosta - you really need a boat image

I saw a trailer for the new shed programme. It's quite an entertaining show.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I've just been to wyevale too.

Had fish n chips for lunch (derby do a good lunch) and used coupon for £4 off.

Finally managed to locate some summer citrus food.

I'm glad that i haven't got all those plants  that they  have left at  up to 70% off.  I think their profits will be well down this year, they still have bedding plants looking for homes.

It decided to chuck it down while we were there, but when we got back no rain here.

Just for you FG. It's one of my favourites and particularly apt, I thought, with all the talk of Gas men this am. image

  • Fidget, I think you are right about the profits. The Shenstone branch didn't have many reductions, but had loads of stock left. The Aldridge one had lots of reductions and lots of empty shelves. Funny how they are so different yet so close together geographically. I was really disappointed when I went to Shenstone, but could have spent a small fortune at Aldridge. As it was I got two dogwoods reduced to £5 each and six heucheras for £2 (also got mum's pots and the another of the heuchera packs for her)

Would have been £77.44 before the reductions, but came to £17.48 in the end

Wow!  Well done Dew Drops... it's always great to get a bargain!  image

Chicky, thanks for the link to the piece about Monty's book.  Must hunt that down...

I've loved previous incarnations of the "Shed of the Year".  I remember one built in the shape of a teapot... wish my garden was big enough to build something really crazy... maybe something to think about for the next house, if I'm not too old by then.  image  (Not that I'll ever be too old for something crazy.  Might just be too old and creaky to build it myself though...)

Your lake sounds (and looks from the photos you've posted) to be absolutely lovely, Hosta.  It'll be great to see how it progresses.

Best wishes for the gravel-shifting muscles, Fairy...  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
