You are right Dove, It is very complicated in Turkey, Many of my friends do not like Erdogan. He is trying to bring religeon into politics, something that is against Turkey's secular status. He is not keen on free speech and has taken facebook and twitter down in the past, mind you he wasn't averse to using it last night. That said, the Turkish people are very protective of their democratic right to vote so I think that is why they reacted as they did to the coup.
As far as I am aware everyone I know is safe. If it had happened in the winter it might have been different as many people work at the tourist resorts between May and October and go back to their home cities in the winter. Many are from Ankara and a few from Istanbul.
Woke up yesterday to the sad news of the Nice massacre.
Woke up this morning and my wife told me she had heard an extraordinary piece of news on the radio while I was fast asleep. Thought I would share with you the incredible and soothing story of "les chanteurs d'oiseaux" at http://www.chanteurs-oiseaux.com/
Back from son's last night. OH told me about Nice, so very sad.
Things were hectic at son's yesterday, they were preparing to go on holiday but they are renovating their house and had a plumber in and were expecting a mason who didn't turn up. So we hadn't seen the news. I was looking after the granddaughters and trying to clean up mess and do washing up. DIL was removing the old plaster and exposing a stone wall in the sitting room. Dust everywhere!
I agree with Topbird when she said "And IMO a good life or person is all about kindness, compassion, courtesy and tolerance.
The people who commit these atrocities show none of those qualities. If there is an after life - they must be going to hell in a handcart. I have never seen a religious text which promotes the killing of innocent, decent people and their children - I have only heard twisted minds corrupting various religious teachings for their own ends."
Christianity teaches "love God and love your neighbour". It's people themselves who commit the violence and corruption. ISIL claim that the terrorist was one of them, but people who knew him say he wasn't religious but he was suffering from depression. Whatever it was, it was a dreadful thing to happen and so sad for the people who died and their families.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
All the Abrahamic religions forbid the killing of non-combatants - but as has happened so often throughout time, religious teaching has been twisted to their own ends
I've mowed the front lawn - despite a good breeze it's very warm out there.
Now for a coffee then the back lawn ....... .

Sorry Dove. Missed you.
Morning all.
Missed the start of the Proms, but saw the Elgar. FAB.
Hopefully dry to day to get some proper gardening done. I never think Polytunnel duties are the same as being out in the garden some how.
The Elgar was fab wasn't it - one of the best renditions I've heard/seen ...... and I've heard/seen quite a few in my time ......
She was mesmerizing
Good review in the Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jul/16/first-night-of-the-proms-review-tribute-to-france-opens-a-stirring-evening
I'm planning to get the lawnmower out this morning ... as I have other tasks for OH tomorrow
