Fairy, i have already walked the West Highland 3 times. I love it, the people you meet the scenery and of course Glen Coe. May just put it off till next year.
Look out for the Tooth Fairy Clari. I'm trying to lose weight and have only been eating naked strawberries lately. They're still lovely when warm from the sun (joke - no sun).
Bushman maybe the WHW isn't the best option for your knees this year. Well done for doing it three times. I'll look at the photos when you do it again.
Pat the heather burning is an emotive subject. When it's debated well I can empathise with both sides. It does seem to be the best way (currently) of controlling the habitat so that the birds are able to thrive and breed.
Glad you're feeling better Lily. You can get near to Poppet again now.
LilyP I forgot to mention the photo shoot. Glad it went well (apart from the adults - can't trust them).
Evening all. Only just in double figures here - had to put the heating on for half an hour
B'man - you'll be getting fed up with the WHW then! Have you done it since they moved the 'finish' ? I couldn't see it when I drove through recently. Not sure where it is now. I enjoyed it but it's not as satisfying as hills so I have no great desire to do another one. Perhaps you should try the Great Glen Way for a change?
Pat - the opposition to burning is often voiced by people who don't understand much about it. It's normally done after young birds have left nests, and it rejuvenates the habitat for birds (grouse) to thrive, as Lesley says. Areas are managed in order to benefit wildlife not destroy it, but there will always be those that only see things a certain way. If you go on some hills in summer, you get loads of grouse sitting in the heather and wooshing into the air when you're a few feet away. Not good for my blood pressure!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
At Great Dixter's plant shop there is a low head-banger beam with a sign on it "Duck or Grouse".
No grouse here but partridges are occasionally to be seen on the edges of local woodlands. First dry day here (so far) in weeks and weeks and my garden group actually managed to sit outside for coffee and cake and lunch later on. We were treated to yellowhammers singing, buzzards mewing, herons flying from one stream to the next, swifts swooping overhead and all sorts of little brown jobs and woodpeckers at the feeders. The only fly in the ointment was Rasta doggy bringing us sodden and chewed bits of a fox-killed pheasant carcass from our woodland corner. Lovely.
PP - I was just thinking earlier today that we need a good dose of Strictly to cheer us all up and change the subject from Brexit and the awful weather so many of us are "enjoying". .
Hope we all get a sunny evening, or at least a dry one.

I put the heating on for a bit too. Drizzling here all afternoon.
Murray won his first round match at Wimbledon. The poor brit facing him put up a valiant effort.
Evening all.
Very wet again today, so weeds continue to grow.
Seems to have been a lot of slug damage while I was away, so if it ever stops raining, will need a night time foray.
Caught up with a bit more Glastonbury today, may try for tickets again next year.
Lot of heather burning carried on round here, seems very helpful to me. Our beautiful countryside requires human intervention, to maintain it.
