Aym...You know that Phoenix Violet you got for erm...£2.45? Well I got one a week before you and it was a £5!! Imagine how I felt when you said £2.45 was expensive! I kept schtum! But it has flowered very nicely so far.

  • So I quickly popped into a B&Q after a meeting this morning. Didn't pick up a basket as everything has been rubbish in B&Q of late. I ended up having to scout out a trolley, it was the best clearance section I've seen in a long time! I got £75 worth for £27:

  • Thanks for all the tips aym.  I'm going to train the clematis along the fence that runs behind my newest flower bed.  I was planning on running it horizontally, like you would with Wisteria or a rose to get it to produce more buds- no idea if it has this effect on a clematis though?  If I find some seeds I can send some onto you, if you like?

Delphinium will be going up in a sunny bed against a concrete fence panel, with established laurel on the other side of the fence, so I hope that it should be a nice little heat trap.

  • I planted my bargains out today. Aym, you were right about the delphinium! There were actually 3 plants in there! Each gladioli pot also contained four bulbs, so I ended up with 8 in total!

I've put the clematis up some netting, no sign of seeds yet though.

Also picked up a bargain chocolate cosmos from Wilko's when I popped in to get the netting:

  • You did well today aym! I love the double petunias and pelargoniums too.

Sadly no slug pellets here. I had got some of the organic ones, but after using them for the very first time we also saw our very first rat- turns out they love eating them because they contain wheat or something similar. Will have to hope they'll be ok. There's a Hosta in the same bed which seems relatively unscathed, so here's hoping. The birds love picking insects out of that bed, so I'll have to try some of the wool pellets instead of the non-organic pellets.

  • Thanks aym, it's Cuprinol garden shades in Seagrass. Painted two years ago, and still looks newly done, amazed at how it has held up against the elements.

The Lavender was worth it just for the bucket aym. Something yellow, orange or pink would look great in it.

Dew...I have used that cuprinol paint but, in a different colour. It's not too runny and not too thick and goes on lovely.

  • Aym, I did look about the fluffy bits, I just had to show them to my husband! Will keep an eye on them for the seeds.

No, not today, aym. Been making a border to get some potted plants into the ground. So any spare money went on compost, grit and sand on Friday afternoon. However, I got more trailing Lobelia for a £1! Hahaha

Been snipping the tips off of them in an effort to make them bushier.

If it's not too late, could I try to take cuttings from my weigela aym? My track record with cuttings isn't great but maybe worth a shot? (That hypericum was only 96p to post)
