Thanks for the tip off aym. image

Popped in this afternoon and picked up a pack of staging down from £15 to £6,

Two packs of 15cm plant pots was £2.50  now £1 each (for my chillies)

Two big heavy duty 52cm gravel trays was £3.50 now £1.50

And seven small gravel trays was 75p now 25p (always handy)

I'll use the staging next spring in the conservatory for seed trays, a perfect excuse to grow even more image

  • Great buys aym!

I picked these up from wilko. The heuchera was 1.50, and the verbena 50p:

Turned out I got 3 plants for my 50p!

Also went with mum to a town festival, and one of the local nurseries had a stall. I got all these for £5:

Dew...Both of those Heuchera are crackers. The bright red Fire Chief and that one with the purple splatters very unusual. I have 2...but they're no where near as interesting as that one. I saw a photo of a Heuchera called Cherry Cola. Added it to my wish list. Lol

  • Thanks Aym! I split the verbena up into three when I planted it, there was lovely root growth in the pot, I'm really pleased with my 50p find. Yes, the heuchera is my favourite too.  I have a soft spot for heucheras (and Hostas), and I think the pattern on this one is so pretty! I found a heuchera Cherry Cola for 75p, I have one already, so my mum bought that one!

Thanks for the tip re the cosmos, I'll definitely be doing that.

You got some great bargains for growing from seed!

    Luke, that's a great buy!

  • Aym, I also meant to say, I took your suggestion and made a list up of what I've bought recently for the new bed (a few ended up in other beds too) with the RRP, actual price and savings. I must admit, a few things on the list were either full price (Heuchera Fire Chief, Salvia Caradona) and I bought them because I loved them, or they were Lidl bargains (Lobelia, Dianthus), so the % saved could have been higher if I hadn't bought those.

    Here's the list and summary:image

I think the Osteopermums and Verbena were the best deal, reduced to 50p from £4. The alpine phlox from

£2 to 39p was also a fab deal. My favourite bargain is today's Heuchera Forever Purple though, it's so pretty!

Here's the new flower bed after todays planting session:

  • Thank you aym, a clematis would be fab! I don't think I've seen a red Jasmine before either!

I bought a foxglove today. It looked fine to me  - plenty of flower buds.

I have a stupid question: Will a single foxglove produce viable seeds?

    In London. Keen but lazy.

I haven't seen any foxgloves around. Hopefully the bees found some.

Will scroll back and find yours Aym

I've been about but all the postings seemed very worthy.

I hoped for an iconoclastic posting or at least a rant.
