aym280, I've learned of so many new plants from this forum also. I like looking at the garden pictures thread to learn about new plants, people are always happy to ID and advise.

I like the little tucked away side of the road plant stalls outside peoples houses! image I have 3 that I happen to find myself in the neighborhood of on a fairly regular basis image but as they are gardeners themselves, they like to encourage others, prices are very reasonable and comes with a tour of the garden!

  • Great bargains aym!

My husband bought this for me today.  Reduced from £17 to £10:

Which should help me with weeding without hurting my hips/back more!

Where did you get all of those items Aym ?

  • That's good aymimage I reckon the salvia will come back.

I have rashly overspent buying a sale Jap anemone for £3image

There was nothing else on the dead shelf of interest so I thought I might as well buy it as not. JA's malinger for me but this one looks promising - a leaf was growing out the bottom of the pot and although the label says max 25cm, I can see for myself it's nearer 45cm.

I expect the garden to be overrun by Thurs.image

  • I don't know if I have Home Bargains, I will look it up.

Two of my longest living JA's are getting smaller each year, they must be going somewhere, maybe Essex, why not??

Aym...Well done finding the Dahlia Water Lily. I wonder what colour the flowers will be on yours? The foliage is a little lighter shade of green than mine. Internet says they can survive milder Winters...fingers crossed but I am still saving the spent flower heads (even if they aren't true to the mother plant. I hope you have a result with that one.

Michael,I dig mine up and chuck them in a cardboard box in the shed over winter and then plant them next year. Most survive. Some people put them in sand.

I always think I'll remember which is which is which but I never do so it's probably a good idea to label them.

Thanks B3. Do you keep any soil on them? Or just the bare rhizomes?

No I just lob them into a box. Less idle gardeners dust them with stuff and put sand on them. I'm sure if you put your question on a separate thread, a dahlia expert will advise you what a good gardener does.I don't think soil is a good idea because you want them to remain dormant over the winter
