Faywray it certainly does not look like a novice garden it looks amazing and you should be very proud of yourself. I bet all those pots take some watering, I know mine keep me busy but you have so many it must take some time.
Guernsey Donkey2 your night sky is beautiful. I love mine it was a gift and it just keeps on giving, I like how every flower on it is different. I have one in my vase today from it which is completely purple and much darker, the only flower so far without the white.
Faywray, hard to believe you built all that with all those gorgeous plants on a concrete drive. An inspiration. Did you break up any of the concrete or is it all in pots and planters?
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I'm not surprised Busy, it is a beautiful, colourful array of flowers and far more interesting than the standard 12 carnations/roses etc although any flowers are welcome in my home - well done!
Thanks for the lovely comments. I am in awe at all your gardens, flowers and knowledge.
We built raised beds, 3 old sleepers high and about 3 ft wide inside, all the way down the side of the house ( the older ones are also on concrete 3 sleeper high X 3ft deep down the fences between my neighbours gardens. They have been in for 5 years). The concrete was not broken up, just laid the sleepers and filled with top soil. The new one has a membrane to protect the house wall. The rest I fill with pots as I have rheumatoid arthritis and find it all rather sore so I try to make it as easy as possible. I have a veg bed round one side too. My other half builds all the structures from off cuts of wood etc he has scratted from jobs he is on. It helps having a joiner ..
The garden wraps round the house, and was completely concrete 6 years ago. I was determined to get some colour in there and have a garden as our old house only had a wee courtyard and my mother in laws garden is beautiful and inspired me to have somewhere nice to sit in summer.
It does take an age to water, the main raised beds are fine - maybe a once a week job, the new bed is a thirsty thing so needs a good soak every couple of days. The pots ( I had around 180 of the things at last count ) take about an hour and a half ever 2 days and, in warm weather every day. I have my hose on a setting now which I don't need to pull the trigger - saves the old hand lol .
I would never have thought a few years ago that I would enjoy growing things so much but by hell it's seriously addictive and such a pleasure. It keeps me active during spring and summer but unfortunately I cannot go out in the cold so in winter it's more like the garden of death as the other half knows nothing about plants so would get rid of everything that doesn't have a bulb ?.
Faywray - it's beautiful. Maybe you could put an automatic watering system on your birthday and Xmas list and keep your beds and pots going that way. Replace summer annuals with pansies for winter interest? And a few evergreens for structure?
Busy - well done. Lovely mix of colours and form. I have been showing your various photos of vases to OH because I shall want a cutting garden for flowers in the new house. Gave up having them here because the felines thought they were "entertainment" but now we have dogs it should be OK.
Aym - lots of help on the internet for making raised beds. You just need the wood, a saw, a drill and some good screws. Why not have a go yourself.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Faywray. Beautiful
A reward for all your hard work and hours of watering.
Dew drops...Great comparison of the before and after border photos.
Fay Wray...loads of colour, and all in pots? Brilliant
Must keep an eye out for those Petunia Night Sky next year. I want some of them.
Beautiflull flowers faywray! I can only hope my new flower bed looks a little like that next summer!
The caterpillar is some kind of Hawkmoth, it looks most like the Eyed Hawkmoth, which feeds on sallow and apple.
My vase of flowers won first prize at the Gardening Club evening!
