geum: five at the back of big boxes like those of sophie's. I wish I had stuck to black boxes. Sophie's are so nice and neat. Some on the ground. They are tiny as I have raised them from seeds. It might take a year or two to establish. Having said that the fence area is south facing, so hopefully there might even be flowers this year. I am HOPING!
Some stunning flowers and photography in this thread and, on the plus side for the new forum format, they are coming out nice and big on my ipad screen.
it's interesting how people's gardens are at such different stages. Here are some of my recent favourites...
Hi aym, I'm smiling this morning after spotting flower buds on my escallonia for the very first time.
I bought it a few years ago and planted it in the front garden and it just sat there doing nothing. I moved it to the back last year to make room for a hydrangea and lo and behold I now have buds.
Terrible photo I know but I'm a little excited at the prospect of some colour.

Can anyone id this - first attempt at a photo not sure how it will come out
Gardengirl, it is a stock. If it has overwintered it is probably a Brompton stock. It should smell gorgeous.

Just popped inside for a tea break away from the heat, it's scorching.
Have cleared around the base and given it a feed and mulch now, felt it needed a bit of a treat after being ignored.
Had a quick google of your Fu Yu aym it looks positively delicious, this was one of the descriptions under a photo.
"The marbled crimson petals of the flowers are shining softly like fine, flamboyant silk in the pale sunlight of winter"
Sounds lovely doesn't it.
Fingers crossed it doesn't make you wait too long.
aym280: perhaps your paeony is planted too deeply. They need to be planted close to the surface.
