With lilies... buy big bulbs. Plant deep in a pot of compost enriched with a handful of blood fish and bone. Top dress with compost mixed with well rotted manure. Water well but let it drain.
Tree lilies are now several years old, planted in Sandy soil, given a handful of BFB as they emerge, top mulched with Well rotted FYM.
I spray just the lilies with provado ultimate bug killer when I see the first Lily beetle. All visible Lily beetles get squashed. The provado has worn off by the time the buds are formed, so I had to hand remove the larvae with wet kitchen paper. There is some Lily beetle damage but not much.

Thank you, GD, aym and obelixx
The flowers in the competition all had to be from your own garden.
Well done Busy Lizzie.
My ammi are only just getting going.
The hot bed is getting there. The Salvia Amistad are around 5 ft tall now, from cuttings taken last October.

Please excuse the state of the brugmansia. Something is eating it.

The Roscoea is Wisley amethyst. I have a few different kinds. I will photo red ghurka tonight if it is not raining.

There were lots of Roscoea when we visited Bressingham Gardens in June. I'd never heard of them either.
I lost the Roscoea which were planted out but I have purple and a few white ones in a large pot in the shade which have done well for a few years.
Looking forward to seeing pics of red ghurka.
All the above were taken tonight. Below is Roscoea cautleyoides "Kew Beauty" in June ( now finished)
