Kew Beauty is one of the first plants I bought for here , 25 years ago. I saw it in the gardens at Bressingham and bought one in the original nursery attached. Over the years it has bulked up and been split up and spread around in patches. I added humeana and purpurea. Then a couple of years ago I discovered Crug farm and Plants for Shade and added a lot of new varieties. I built a separate bed for them under the pear trees on the shady side.
They are in a bed on their own because they do not poke above the ground until June. With other perennials they tend to be smothered or you stick a fork through the tubers. I have to hand weed very carefully around them. They get a thick mulch in winter but are totally hardy. I added cautleya as well as they seem to go together.
Wow! What wonderful flowers.p you all have. May I ask a stupid question? I have loads of lilies, some in pots, some in the raised beds. All seem to do well. A lot have been in their pots for 3 years and have grown into huge plants ( there are loads of bulbs, some huge, where I planted one) I leave them every winter and all seem to survive in their pots and grow. I have 2 questions about them... What are the differences between lilies - I read you mentioning tree lilies etc but I don't know what all mine are so if you could tell me it would be appreciated as I want to care for them the best I can.
My second question is I have Guernsey Lilies that don't flower. Not sure what to do with them.. And again they are in a pot .
I have been pinching off the seed pods as the petals drop as I heard it makes the Bulbs stronger. In spring some on the forum mentioned bulbets or baby lilies . Should I separate theme or leave where they ate?
If the bulbs are in the pots for a few years, I tip them out, pick the best ones and repot in new compost. There are sometimes smaller bulbs at the side of the old bulbs, but repotted they will take a couple of years of good fertile soil and a sunny position to get to flowering size.

Oh sorry another question - can I split the huge lilies that now the bulbs take up a 24"x24" container .
I dead head lilies just below the flowers after the petals fall off. I leave the stem to go brown on its own, putting strength back into the bulb.
Thank you.
