Lovely pictures, Dew Drops. I particularly like the second and the seventh. Sweet peas are amazing. Mine have flowered already, though I have planted them rather late. I'm getting rather impatient for buds to open; I think I might have helped a poppy or two - just to see what colour they were. image

Dew drops, you must be delighted with the progress of the border image

  • Thank you!

Yes, I'm really pleased with it so far. Peony is sulking as it had to be moved from one bed into this one due to removal of its part of the original bed to make room for a summerhouse (not yet constructed, but if I didn't remove it when I did the husband would have trampled on it when demolishing the old shed).

Aym, very close, they were taken on my iPhone. I forgot to take my dSLR and macro lens into the garden, but the iPhone does a good job. Oh, and I love the little duck. We have a hen, a cat and a dog in that flower bed too....and two chickens in the shady flower bed opposite.

You can probably spot the hen at the far left, and if you look carefully you might be able to spot the cat amongst the flowers. If not its just snuck into this photo from the start of last month.image

  • A few more snaps, I don't why mine have the mysterious dark look that you commented on aym280 must be the weather when they are taken, it is grim up Northimage Lovely pics posted since my last visit.

Pretty border there Dew Drops and some great shots, the duck is cute.

Bit brighter this one, the sun came out after the rain yesterday. Been raining all day again today, not got anything done outside apart from dashing out to cut a few flowers for my vases image

  • I love the Night Sky, so pretty. SS have decimated my petunias once again.

Aym, I think the chicken manure has really helped give things a boost....and I keep sneaking bits in, especially some of the bedding plants I started off in small pots earlier in the year (Busy Lizzies, Snap dragons etc)

    Guernsey Donkey2 says:

Just come on, reading the comments re gazania, they are perennial here - I hardly lost any from last year's sowing even though they were left outside. The ones I lost were in shallow terracotta troughs so the roots were just 3 or 4 inches under.

Here is one of my gazanias...I think it's my favourite of my bedding plants - it really stands out in the border! They're amazing, they just keep on sending out new shoots, more buds and they just keep on growing and flowering.

Are they perennial everywhere? Should I leave it where it is at end of the season? If not can seed be collected?

They certainly aren't perennial in SW France. When I sowed them they took a long time to get going, but I had better results from plug plants. We have cold winters.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Lovely gazanias Wakeshine, they really do stand out with their bright flowers. To be sure of having a crop next year I would save some of the seeds to plant again next Spring. I have never collected seed but I would imagine if you nip off a few flower heads when they are dry and dead looking you should be able to save the seeds. If you leave some of the plants in a sheltered place and have a mild winter you may be able to keep the plants alive for next year.

I have the Night Sky petunia too BloodRose and I am very pleased with it so far.imageimageimage

  • Everything is in bloom. I am so chuffed with how my new bed, built on top of our old concrete drive, and pergola with and old tin bath and Belfast sink have done. Can't believe it was only Easter when we built them. imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

  • All your gardens and flowers are so inspirational. I am a complete novice really I just plant thing that I think look nice but often get it wrong. Since joining the forum a couple of months ago I have learnt so much from you chaps. Thanks ??
