  • Wow, Joybell, that's fabimage

I saw a corpse in the past week on a main road near where I work, not one of mine but I've been putting food out since, in case they're up and about.

Only the cowardly blackbird (hangs out near me to avoid being beaten up by the others) has been partaking so far...

    Wearside, England.

How exciting & rewarding image I'm definitely getting hog envy of you all now, still waiting for my resident to make an appearance! I hope so too Zenjeff, they mate in May but could already be courting (you'll notice a lot of snuffling noises). Babies anytime in June & July. If it's a mild autumn, they will have a second litter in September, October or even November (that happened last year)!

Mark56, thanks for the link on how to stop cats getting to the food in the feeding stations. I have 2 of the plastic box feeding stations, found 2 hedgehogs in the one box week before last trying to get to the same bowl so now have bought a third box! So pleased to see them and they looked a good size image

Photos taken tonight, a lot of snuffling going on. They are eating well so I left them in peace. You can't see it in the photos but there is a Perspex roof on the house, which means I can see in without disturbing them.image

Fantastic stuff folks. I tend to only use mealworms as a weekly treat now, as they are quite high in fat. Meat flavoured cat biscuits are win win, as they also help to keep their teeth in good condition.

Beautiful pictures Joybell, your hogs look very healthy! The fact one is bigger than the other makes me think it's a male alongside a female. Do you hear lots of snuffling at night? They could be courting image

You can also feed them finely chopped peanuts & sunflower hearts (birds also love them). Make sure to keep a shallow dish of water out as well, they drink quite a lot for little pricklies!
