GWRS, it's not your imagination regularly see the male Sparrow hawk, now it's the females turn to do a fly past, she's much bigger and this is in the town centre. Couple of weeks ago saw 11 Red Kites soaring above us could not believe that, never seen so many.

The Hedgehogs have taken over, I have been putting out 5 small bowls of dried cat food in the feeding stations and it's all been going, so I wanted to check yet again, it's not cats getting in. Well, it's not, 5 Hedgehogs and 3 Hoglets all finding the feeding stations. I went out last night and counted them, and then just to make sure I wasn't counting the same ones I ran round the garden with a torch, just in case they were tricking me.

I have found that the the Hoglets struggle with feeding and drinking from bowls as they are too high, so will now put out saucers instead.

The Hedgehogs can go through holes in the fences or under the gates to roam, if they want to.image

  • Our 5 are getting quite big now?. Can't they move when they want to ! The hawk keeps coming and leaving a mess of feathers in our garden? Usually not long after mowing the lawn, then have to do it again.

  • cant understand why reference to birds of prey god there lovely but if hedgehogs out during day then birds of prey not issue get your hedgehogs to rescue centre cause something wrong ,we have 8 to 10 hogs  in are garden most nights

It's like a poo I.D parade in my garden some days! Cats, hedgehogs and ?fox.

Had a delivery on a pallet this week so with this plus some wood and branches I have been keeping - I am planning on crafting a hedgehog shelter.  Any tips welcome...

My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • Don't plan too much as they likely will ignore it and use something else

Ignored my built box and used the cat/dog hose

  • Following advice from a hedgehog lady in Yorkshire via Facebook we've bilt a hedgehog feeding station.

One plastic box, 4 in hole cut along short edge and taped so that the edges are not sharp, two feeding blows and a brick later we have this, with hedgehog.

Its where we we can see it from the bungalow bedroom window at the moment so we could see if it was being used. Now we've seen two hogs using it we'll tuck it some where more sheltered on their main path through the garden. We've always kept the far back corner wild and put tree branches and logs in a pile for them. We think there is a gap in the fence where three gardens meet, it's a tiny no mans land and they seem to always come from that direction.
