  • Hi all just brought another HH indoors. image I've weighed HH and he/she is under a 1lb. Round about 400G again.image  I think this one is the brother/sister to Henrietta. I've put another box in with the Henrietta's under the table but have put a partition up. HH seems ok and only curls up when picked up, then uncurls when put down. It was very cold last night so I thought it best to bring HH in. I will call the rescue tomorrow for advice.

  • Morning and no problem 1Runnybeak1...image

OMG, another one Paula!!!! imagePoor wee thing....well obviously knows where there's room at the inn lol. Good luck and let us know how you get on..image

  • Hi clarice673,yes another one.image I've been in touch with Brinsley  rescue this morning. They  said I did the right thing. They recommend not to give mince meat or beef based food ONLY chicken or turkey in jelly NOTgravy, they use whiskas. I will need to get them to 650g+,then reacclimatise them before I let them go. I'm off to get some more timber and hinges to make a lid for the top of the box cause the newbie is trying to climb out from under the mesh and I don't want HH to get trapped. I will keep you up dated.image

clarice673 I notice you have a Rottie  he/she is absolutely beautiful. We had a bitch called Rio for twelve and half years. Gorgeous dogs, very intelligent. Big soft teddy bears.image

  • Hi Tetley ? How amazing that Paula has yet another little one to now look after? A bit of a distance between us Tetley...I'm in the Dordogne but yes I would have animals over humans most of the time...Our 3 cats are rescues as are our two dogs..along with my 4 chickens I got for b/day in April, its turning into quite a sanctuary here..image

  • Just off to bed, hope things are going ok with you Paula? image

Yes we have a rescued Rottweiler called Naya!, 6 years old and a bundle of laughs...(was dumped twice before we got her)! ..In France you "MUST" have Insurance, you "MUST" do a 24 hour..."Stage"...(assessment with dog)! You must then, if you clear that, you have to visit the vet for him/her to handle the dog and make sure it's NO threat! After this you have to visit the "Marie"...(Council for village you live in) and make sure its residents have NO objections to you having this Class 2 dog. After this you must visit the local "Gendemerie" and inform them you have a Rottie....

    "PHEW"......??.

After ALL that, she "MUST at ALL times be on a muzzle in a public place AND we MUST have our Insurance and vet etc certificates with us at ALL times incase stopped!

"IT HAS ALL BEEN WORTH IT AND WOULD DO IT AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT"......?

  • Hi clarice673,blimey you have to go through all that rigmarole. I'm sure she's worth it. Maybe we should have something like that in the UK. That way you would only get responsible people buying dogs. I remember my dad saying "what the hell do you want one of those dogs for". I told him "its how you bring them up". My dad use to look after my daughter when I went to work until hubby got home. He was adamant that Rio was staying in the kitchen while he was in the living room. But he realised,.it is how you bring them up. My dad had mongrel dogs at home when he was growing up, he said they could be nasty. He said "Rio was as daft as a brush".image They became best friends.image

Tetley, I would love to have a HH rescue but I don't have the time or the space.. Me and hubby always say that if we won the lottery we would retire and have a rottie  rescue and of course now a HH rescue.

I just heard a scratch on the patio door and new HH must of climbed over the enclosure. I've just put HH back. We've not quite finished the lid to go on top, so I've had to put something on top of the mesh. Hopefully he won't get out. Got to cut out two more doors  now we've got a partition, so each can get out and have a run round in conservatory. Not at the same time though. The rescue I phoned said it best I keep them separate. I'm going to call second HH Henry. He's a little bit bigger than Henrietta ,that's why he can climb out. He's eating his chicken now .image

Henrietta ate a whole 100g packet of chicken last night so I've given her a little more than that tonight.image

Henry on the other hand didn't eat all of his. He may still be a little nervous in his new environment.image

You're doing great Paula, if you can throw in some dry chicken or meat flavoured cat biscuits - the cheap tesco's or ASDA own brands go down a treat, they're a great natural way of cleaning their teeth.

Would everyone be willing to badger their local councils in response to the new Hedgehog Preservation Society strimmer injury scheme? I've done mine here in Berkshire. Twitter link - https://twitter.com/hedgehogsociety/status/799620486720274432

Also they are sending out leaflets and posters for people to display in their area, I've done some with cable ties on lamp posts here. Email [email protected] with address.

I agree Tetley! I've also seen horrific injuries from rubber elastic bands left discarded on pavements etc.

  • Hi Paula hows things going with your new arrival? ???.

Yeah was a bit of a palava with Naya but at least all parties knew that she was going to a good home and stick to the rules required...I also agree that same should be done. In UK as I think it would definately be responsible people that would only take on whats needed beforehand and just maybe stop the rise in these dogs going to the wrong homes. I forgot to say, by law all "bitches must be neutered also". She's a total joy and her and her sister Pepsi..(collie cross) live like ladies off the manner.?

    Great advice Tetley/Mark...?

  • Hi mark56,hoggies are quite spoiled. They have their chicken in jelly, whiskas dry cat biscuits, chopped nuts dried mealworms, live ones too, with water available at all times.image

I'm sure when their released they'll be knocking on the door to come back in.image

clarice673, Henry's ok. neither come out during the day. I clean them out in the mornings.Need to get some more boxes  cause they are weeing in their nests and its coming through the bottom of the box. I will have to cut out the bottom of the boxes so its easier just to lift up and replace the newspaper  that way. I told the staff at work to save any news papers the patients no longer want. I got another pile tonight.image

mark56 I almost forgot to ask .Do HH normally poo in or near the entrance of their nest ?If so, is it to deter other HH?
