imageLoving the photo clairegreenlow,  I thought foxes would attack hedgehogs, shows how little I know.

Found a very large hedgehog today in the compost heap, he wasn't there at 7pm last night because I was still sorting out the compost, I know how to live. image

He/she is a lot larger than the ones that I feed nightly.

In March they came out at 8.45pm now its 10.15pm

Going to leave this here from our rescue:

Yes it's gone 1am but we still get animals delivered. Yet another one with tooth decay despite being a youngster. The cause of this? Sultanas, raisins, fruit, sweet biscuits and we've also been assured that one woman's hedgehog loves Wagon Wheels!

Please! These guys are not fruit eaters, nor vegetarian nor vegan, they like crunchy beetles, they can't clean their teeth, they have to rely on what they eat to do that for them. Sugar in any form is bad for all teeth. If you want to help the animals by feeding them then HELP them by giving appropriate food not something that causes toothache which stops them eating so they die.

Those bits all over the paper by his chin? Plaque that we've chipped off.

That poor Hedgehog and so young.

I only feed them dried meat dog biscuits which I can hear them crunching without disturbing them and water.

Keep up the good work it's so obviously needed.

Thank you Joyce. Dried meat dog or cat biscuits are absolutely perfect, they help clean the hogs teeth acting similarly to their nature diet of bugs. image

imageFirst spotted a baby Hedgehog on Wednesday night, roaming around quite happily. Then 2 larger ones came through the hole in the fence which backs on to the over grown area which is a very quiet.

All are moving fast and clear of ticks, I hate ticks, yuk

When I took the photo he/she curled up .

Ahhh Joy!!! How brilliant, it looks like you'll have a clan of them in no time image have you seen anymore baby hoglets?

  • Brilliant thread, thanks mark56.

Saw no hedgehogs for probably more than 15 years, but have seen several in the last couple of years, and most memorably in my own garden for the first time.

Hopefully more people are also making their gardens wildlife friendly and the hedgies have a chance to increase in numbers again.

imageimageimageLatest news on Hoglets, there are now 3 roaming around finding the food and water, as they are still quite small I have put in some stepping stones on the steps, to halve the drop as they are quite deep steps.

The pipe in the hedgehog box stops the cats from stealing the food.
