Went to the allotment yesterday did a bit of drilling up some pallet wood in shed, think shed will be warmer when floor down as still pallet boards with holes in it

Was weird yesterday with the weather and sky

Today got to see our certificate silver award at Woolston garden project, also did a good load of bulb planting and moving of self sown seedlings foxgloves and daisy to ontop of bulb area and planted broad beans

    Small bit of rain now

Sounds like a productive day. Gg.

Do you sow your broad beans in the ground?

I have some peas which can sown now...

Yes sow broad beans in ground - well this time was in raised beds they are good hardy plants last year did in Novembe

I sowed peas in sept this year they did ok for a while till some were eaten by the rat but still quite a few left and now there are less of them cause of the weather think they need a cloche or to go inside a green house, may try the rest of my seeds in spring and may give up on winter sowing till have greenhouse up or plastic cloche or coldframe

I have ordered thanks to Garden news mag offer two fruit trees by one get one free, a pear and plum with 2 different types on each tree (as in 2 types of pear on one tree)

B&Q today spitting outside and I need to buy strimmer line

Think I'll wait till the spring to sow broad beans but plan to try peas now.

Well it’s been a busy few months after first getting my allotment in August. Head high in weeds with only a delapidated shed, some of you may remember my original photos.

Well im still going strong and have worked nearly half the plot.....every inch by hand.... check out the before and current images.....

  • It’s not been easy but it certainly has been some the best and most enjoyable days I’ve experienced!  Trying to refrain from rushing and planting into the finished beds. Instead I want to throw on lots of sourced  manure and compost and grit for drainage on very clay soil!

Forget xmas I’m looking forward to spring!

Caroline117  good going, is your plot shelted with the hedges? looks good areas for raised beds, get some pots planted with bulbs in it for spring colour

Been to the plot today more sawing and screwing of planks on the inside of the shed and lots more hammering and nails for putting up the long board got a few up now

Storm tomorrow so not good wet and windy - hope all stuff at plot tied down

  • GReat stuff! Yes same here made sure everything was weighed down before I left today ready for windy weather tomorrow!

been hammering and screwing myself after building my first compost bins with reclaimed wood, very pleased!

Yes I am fortunate enough to have a south facing plot surrounded by hedges. Completely sheltered as the wind goes over the tops! A real suntrap in summer....glad I have water as part of my rent!
