Been sorting out my seed box, have loads of free seeds from magazines, far to many to sow. I've sorted some flower seeds for my brother.

I've started a sowing diary, listing what to sow and when. It worked well last year until about July time.

Won't be starting any flowers until at least March.

GWRS - Winter wash sounds like an idea for this weekend. Should I do it even on newly planted trees? (They are two years old).

Zoomer - A sowing diary sounds great. I´m sure my missus will love putting one together. Thanks for the idea,

Gardengirl - Thanks for the tip about gumtree. Hadn´t thought about that. Unfortunately no barrows for sale near me. May have to bite the bullet and but a new one of Saturday as I will really need it then.

  • Hi everyone! image

Just found this thread and following with interest. I have had an allotment for two years now but recently just swapped to smaller but sunnier plot. Also grow in garden.

Can I ask what 'winter wash' for trees is? We have fruit trees but they weren't very good last year so bit confused what to use on them.

Hello Janetclaire I have an allotment and grow in the garden - in raised beds, nice to have a sunny plot

This is winter tree wash like a greasy/ oil stuff that you spray used with water helps with bugs not being able to secure their eggs , first time I have used it as my apple tree had lots of bugs - you can also add a grease band

YerMan You could use winter wash on your on your new fruit treesit wont hurt them you will only use a bit for small trees,  think of it this way the wheel barrow will last for a long time so money well spent and get lots of use, so make sure you get one that feels comfortable

  • Thanks Gardengirl! Will have a look for that at garden centre.

Any ideas how to treat brown rot on plum trees? Most plums had it last year. We tried to clear the rotten fruits and prune the tree.

Janetclaire winter wash does cost quite a bit but should do a lot of trees, Sounds as though you are doing the right thing from looking at this website

Well after getting locked out of the house today image by someone indoors and no answer  - glad I took my garden gloves I had a go at clearing the bee and butterfly border in the garden broke all the old stems off the plants, cleared the leaves and added homemade compost - trying to keep warm emptied the compost bin and mulched the border also then cleared the herbaceous border stems and added home made compost

In the bee and butterfly border I added some foxgloves and sweet williams

Sounds like you turned, being locked out, around and got lots done Gg...?

I let my subscription run out for GW mag, the Jan offer of 5 issues for £5 sounds a good deal so will renew it.

I've just sent off for the gladioli offer and am hoping they have a dahlia offer before summer.

Is anyone working out a rotational plan for this yr. I manage a four year rotation in some beds but find I plant some beds twice in one yr and beans have gone in the same bed twice...
