Hi Victoria Sponge, I'm on a council run plot but we have a local allotment association that cost £5 to join and you get discounts on Kings seeds, 10% off at a local nursery, plus days out and competitions.

Had a few hours on my plot on Sunday so tidied up my wonky paths and put some more bark down.

All my parsnips are up now, very pleased with them, they like my soil!

Looking forward to seed sowing, has anyone started yet?image

Hello Victoria , I only see a few on the plots in the winter , different when spring comes

Our allotment ass is a bit hit and miss in doing things , however , our Village does have a really good Gardening club , why see if there are any near you ?

Hoping to go to plot at weekend

Been in garden today , making a  roof to go next to coal bunker to give wood for fire ? some protection . Hoping to fix it tomorrow

Have a good day everybody image

    That is good Victoria sponge

GWRS that sounds good got to keep fire wood dry

Ginagibbs parsnips are nice glad they like your soil, not started any seed sowing yet, have had a look what sweet pea seeds I have

Lucky before we left for the allotment my bird food arrived which had to be signed for that is for the bird watch

So when we got to the plot the tarapulin had blown off the shed and had to spend a long while re putting it back up, glad took the ladder - so now my shed inside is like Zoomer's44 wet

After a bit managed to get some digging done much better to dig the soil after it has been covered for a while, only found a few bits of rubbish more bits of glass and lots of weed roots now in garden waste bin, found a few coins need to clean them up

I am trying to dig and clear the bottom end of my plot where the compost bins will go, small shed and bird house area hope to get the bird house up before nesting time

Watched the car reck in the field being towed away all the way across the field to the truck

    Hi all,

Went to the plot today to check on the trees I had planted before Christmas. They survived. Phew!

Lots of work to do - digging a few more beds - clearing the dreaded couch grass bit by bit. Will have to wait until Saturday.

The missus managed to organise a couple of trailers full of manure to be delivered this Saturday too - one rotted and one fresh. Will start to dig some in as we clear beds. The fresh stuff can be piled and covered at the end of the plot. Need to buy a wheelbarrow to move it all about though. Wow, they´re expensive.

Local allotment associations and shops etc. all sound interesting. Will have to look into it and see if there is one around here. Found out that the Leeds Council Allotment Federation is organising a training day with some workshops in early February - will go along to that with the missus and see what it´s all about. Two of the workshops sound interesting - one about composting and the other about getting the most from your plot given by a speaker from the National Vegetable Society. Looking forward to it.

Rooves and tarpaulins blowing off of sheds sound like a right pain. Good luck fixing them.

Hello YerMan good your trees are ok, You could try gumtree for a wheelbarrow as they are expensive some one on my site was chucking one away so I nabbed it wheel does stay up for a while and it is a low down wheelbarrow I have now pimped it up with white metal paint inside and yellow spray on outside

Good with the manure delivery - lots of hand digging to remove all the roots of the couch grass been doing that my self today as well as bind weed roots

My shed tarpaulin is now tied down with the wood planks back on top

Going to have a little shed on plot for my wheelbarrow still in garden at min till needed

  • Hi All,

I like the sound of an association that does days-out, competitions and yerman's workshops sound like a good idea. I will try and find out if there is a club.

I'm starting my indoor seeds this weekend Gina. I have a mini greenhouse frame which goes in my conservatory. First to sow are aubreita and bedding lobelia.
