Hi all, looking forward to doing a bit more sowing this weekend. My leeks, tomatoes, and Brussel sprouts are staring to come up so bought some more seeds today from the Range (beetroot, sweetcorn, courgette etc)
Garden Girl, I put a few rocks and some pond weed (not sure what type as was given it) in my washing up bowl pond. I have a resident frog! a few of the other plot holders have done the same, one has got a mini diving board !!
Esther3, I was told about the horsetail, not all allotments are cursed with it as it loves wet ground and ours is a flood plain so it gets very wet at times.
Hi Guys! I made a start on my allotment on Thursday. I've found out that it was basically a large grass lawn with flower borders around it. I've cleared back a bit of path that was tripping me up, as it was unseen. I've also cleared away weeds from some of the flower beds and discovered a pieris. Looks like reasonably acid soil, as most of it is around here. It's rained almost non-stop since!
GWRS what variety of beans were they ones for winter?
Ginagibbs when looking at a pond plant area at In-Excess garden centre they had mares tail as a bog plant for sale, thanks for the information about the pond
Esther3 great find re the plant and good if just grass
Yesterday went to In-Excess garden centre as I had cleared an area in the front garden on Thursday and I also wanted some bits as the place sells cheap items passed on from other stores, got a wheelbarrow for the garden as the one we have has lots of holes in the bucket
Found a yellow jasmine plant which is what I wanted for the bird area at plot - no luck in other garden centre, I also brought a childs rake as the tines are not as wide as a big one nice wooden handle and silver tines and for the front garden plants forget me nots in blue and pink mixed
Today went to the allotment to do digging started at one bit then was a bit disheartened as the weeds have started growing and brambles and still a bit to dig off plot yet and a lot of weeds have started growing in area I have dug before self seeded docks a lot - went and started digging that bit got a bit done - lots to get done
Lots of people out today as sun was out some of the time, some that have not been there for months
Yesterday spent a few hours on the allotment digging the plot over with my new Azada that was a gift for Christmas . A really good tool , certainly made short work of what I was doing and it certainly saved my back a lot of aching ! Also used my new right angled fork to remove clumps of couch grass with considerable ease .
Put up a new bird box on the tree behind my plot , so fingers crossed something will move in soon .
Managed to get the first cut of the year on my lawn , and even though it was just a top cut it certainly made the garden look a lot better . Also managed to sow some salvia seeds , calendula , and comfrey and Kale . Also potted on some Penstemon cuttings , so all in all not a bad weekend - roll on next weekend .

Sowed more flower seeds. Most were free from various mags collected over the year, hardy anuals. Sowed kale, broccoli, leeks, lettuce and pak Choi.
I've probably started sowing to early but nothing ventured, nothing gained.?
The plot next door has been let. Not met them yet.
Nice to see and hear signs of Spring, rubard is coming up, fruit trees are beginning to bud and birds chirping.
Is it to early to see signs of asparagus growing?
Hello all , yes lovely day , went up to plot this afternoon for a couple hours , weeding , digging and sprayed paths with weed killer
Pleased to say plot at other side of road way is let , 2 men started work on it
Mystery plant found in garden bed of new plot. Any ideas, folks? The soft leaves are a pretty pink and it's currently only about 6 inches tall.
