Went to the plot this morning and started to tidy the strawberry patch, thanks Aster2 you were my motivation, it's been relocated around the fruit bushes image .

Weeded the herb garden and have learnt, winter savory is a member of the mint family...image ...was digging up roots in the old strawberry patch for fun, best planted in pots if anyone is thinking of growing it.

It started to rain so went into the GH to sow more seeds and pot up.

Bobflannigon - I've 'top hat' and another blueberry bush, can't remember the variety of the second one, both are quite small but produce alot of fruit, birds love them though, so they need netting after they've flowered and while the berry's are green. Best not to prune them for at least two years after buying to allow them to form a good root system and top growth.

I've got blueberry bushes in pots and while they do produce a good whack, they dont produce anywhere near 2.5kg of fruit, let alone 5kg!

I almost killed all my chilli and tomato plants last weekend. I was on a hen weekend and a group of us stayed overnight at my house. There was lots of alcohol involved and the plants all took a wee trip image they landed on the floor and I had to very quickly replant them all very quickly. Thankfully they all seem to have survived image

squashes are doing well in the greenhouse but I need to start thinking about hardening them off.

I did pull some rhubarb today!

First lot of potatoes went in a couple of week ago, just waiting for it to stop raining long enough for me to get the next lots in! Onions and garlic all planted direct and doing well, and the first lot of beetroot starting to show through now

Fruitcake, Your seedlings should be fine, the cat knocked my toms off the windowsill one yr, I didn't know what I was growing till the plants set fruitimage...I'd sown yellow, red, zebra and black that yr..image

Only just sown chillies and toms. Bought 6 chilli and 2 sweet pepper plants though, different varieties and some which will grow to 4 or 5ft.

Zoomer44, glad to hear about providing motivation. image I'm sure your strawberries will now put on some turbo growth. I'm glad I saw your post about winter savory, I was about to grow it on the plot, but now won't. Might get it for a pot on my patio instead.

My seedlings have started to grow roots through their newspaper pots, so I'll need to buy larger pots asap.

I put in my first and second earlies yesterday.

Do you all protect your young veg plants from birds? I was told that it's really important, because the birds would eat anything planted out, but it seems such a hassle.

I now have a greenhouse! It's just 4x6ft and missing glass in two door panes, but you can stand up in it and it's right next to my plot. It turns out that the lady next to me is giving up her beautifully tended plot (and taking her chickens), so I'm getting four large beds plus the greenhouse! (I was also offered a place in a new chicken care collective, because some of the other plot holders want to get new chickens, but I declined. I'll be happy for chickens to be there, but I won't take on the responsibility even if it means missing out on the eggs.)

Thanks, GWRS. How do you figure out when to remove the netting?
