Zoomer44 Think the beans have a deficiency rest in GH sounds really good
Tips for show even though early cut things like veg in morning of show so not to wilt leave stalk on peas/ beans they snap beans in half for sound so good firm ones, with fruit like berries cut leaves to add under them on plate, I went around cutting flowers put in vases day before have extras in case bits fall off or don't look right - they supply plastic vases in the show I went to
Get the oasis foam and soak well to help keep plants looking ok when going around show later - as when I entered the show once I did not know someone gave me oasis spare and it was not wet I added water but still my plants were wilting in the show later felt not great then
GWRS me want to enter a show this year good luck for next week what will you enter? when I tried swift potatoes they did not give me much I thought maybe the way I watered them but maybe not they were meant to be good potatoes early ones nice you had a good time at the allotment
Not been back long about an hour and half from allotment planted rest of free potatoes from allotment shop after doing the rest of digging, also planted gladioli bulbs I had left, trimed down a few nettles around pallets stung finger and trimed some potatoes down - harvested few strawberries, sweet peas they smell nice all pink ones and broad beans - very humid weather today
Going to be a bit limited this year , we have to pick things on the Friday as they have to be on the show bench early Saturday morning , if it is warm can keep things in Fridge
Do get a show entry form and read it , for example ours says courgettes must have the flowers on , that way you can't have bought them from supermarket
also take note of how others present there produce and do the same eg. Onions o/h always binds the ends with rafter
Also if the judges stay around have a chat and ask there advice about showing , if they have stayed it usually means they are freindly in my experience
It is good fun as we don't take it to seriously , really is good just to take part but it is nice to to get 1 st , 2nd or 3rd place obviously
Go for it
Have a day at allotment tomrrow subject to weather of course
Planted out my sweetcorn in garden and courgette, dug up my Albert Bartlett purple majesty potatoes with blight still two buckets worth, but horrible when the potato is so affected it popped with mush and stunk
Hello all , did lots at allotment yesterday afternoon , getting things ready for Village show Saturday
Popped up this morning with used compost from potatoe sacks , not really very good this year , next door won the potatoe Tropty last year but his are even worse than mine !
O/H does all the fidley bits
Will let you known how we do
Feels like finally got the plot under control after holidays
Hope alls well with your plots
The grass Road ways have not been cut for ages and a couple of plots seem to have been abandoned , the site agent not doing a very good job at all
GWRS I emailed the council last week to see if the garden team will be coming to strim grass edges and cut brambles back on fences, The plots with no one on or ones giving up dont get strimmed so left to go weedy which is not very great and when you get a plot they don't stim it for you which would be helpful if they did
GWRS How many things do you think you will enter for the show? I not sure I will do as many as a few years ago when I entered with only things from the garden as had no allotment - not as much flowering
Had my purple potatoes yesterday for dinner so had purple mash
Been building a planter for garden today as need an area of the garden to be higher up as next door trees make the area dry also I have still to plant 2 lupins from the garden show
It is the same wood I used to build the station garden project planters from but this time I want to paint it I need it to stand out from under tree branches so want to go for colour of some sort

Question for all : If you had an allotment shop on site what would you like them to sell?
