Sorry to hear you've had such poor weather Scroggin.

What a shame about the hailstones, Scroggin. I think we're in the same county, but we've had "only" torrential rain here. Today was the first nearly dry day for ages, so I spent four hours on the plot, weeding and planting out sweetcorn, the last cucumbers and tomato, gazanias and cleome. I have to say the cleome leaves do look a lot like cannabis, so I left the labels next to the plants; the trouble is, any labels I leave are scattered around the plot within a day or two. I don't know what is doing that, squirrels or birds?

The various beans haven't done well at all, they all have brown spots on their leaves from all the rain. I'll be lucky to get any crop at all. The potatoes look good, though, and I've been lucky with them compared to other people on the site, who have had the plants reduced to twigs by slugs.

The second batch of nematodes has arrived, so that's a job for next week - given the weather, I won't need to water them in much!

Zoomer, could it be apple scab?

    Hey guys and gals :)

been ages since I popped in, sorry bout that! I kinda forgot the thread existed :o

life has been ultra busy for me - we went away for a week a month ago and have been playing catch up ever since!

the good and the bad - bad = weeds! No matter how hard you try...!

The good - lots! I've been picking strawberries for a couple of weeks now, coming home with 4-5lb each time, if not more. I've got lots of jam in the fridge lol. Just has the first raspberry today. I noticed today that one of my red currants is actually a black currant! Potatoes don't look as great as they've done previously, on either plot. Don't really know why. Brocolli and sprouts have been planted out.

I had to pull the garlic up because of rust. This was on both plots. Nice little haul. Onions all doing well but are spring planted ones so they'll be staying in a wee bit longer. Rhubarb is plentiful and I'll be picking that for a few months yet I reckon.

Had the first runner beans today too!

Glad you all seem to be doing ok and your plots coming on nicely :D

Hi fruitcake, just found this thread again a few days ago too!!

seem to be dodging the rain lately, saves watering though. Made a new raised bed in the poly tunnel yesterday, at lease it was a good excuse to be undercover. Planted some toms in it. all looking ship shape now!

My spuds look as though something has made holes in the leaves, so hoping the tubers are ok.

I managed to water in the second batch of nematodes yesterday. Apart from that, plants are growing, but very slowly. It's very noticeable how they perk up when we have a sunny day. But we haven't had many lately, so there's nothing to harvest at all. At least the new rose, Lady Emma Hamilton, has three beautiful flowers. Lovely scent, too.

Ahhhhhhggg.... we have potato blight!!! got to the plot last night having been away 2 days and there is a warning sign on the gate. Had to dig up all my tatties as its spread to mine. I am not surprised, this weather is perfect blight conditionsimage

I'm off work now for 2 weeks so hoping this weather is going to warm up properly too, its like winter here!

    Happy gardening folks!
