I went to the allotment today too, done some more weeding and planting out of plants - celery, sunflowers, Dahlias cactus ones to try them and cucamelons - only 3 as slugs eat the rest had 8 to start with

Zoomer still time for them to grow may be feed them, me not planted any yet still in drinking cups, picked up the guild book for show today lots of categories to choose from will see if I have any peas and potatoes and maybe a photo entry - 6 of August for show, not sure about the fruit just make sure they are netted

Rose mummy have help with plot to start with if can, enjoy my pic of the flowers I brought and still to plant from garden show some were great bargains

What a nice selection of flowers, Ggimage.

Only went to the plot to water the GH and as it was raining, weeded the pots. Mares-tail grows in thereimage. Last year I covered the beds  with cardboard and muck, and this year thinking it had moved out just planted in bottomless pots with some pots on a staging table. Will be going back to cardboard and muck next year.

Picked my first lettuce, it was too wet to harvest anything else, Zoomer makes a mental note to check the weather forecast and best time to harvest veg/fruit for the coming week image.

Zoomer, I also think strimming would be more useful in the long term! image

    Lovely flowers, Gg!

I spent a few days in Cornwall this week; I went to the Tregothnan tea plantation shop (unfortunately you cannot visit the plantation itself), which is a kind of big shipping-container shape building (with windows, though) in the middle of pretty much nowhere. When I got there, there were two other customers who turned out to be two allotmenteers from Yorkshire. It was very nice sitting there in such a remote place, chatting about growing fruit and veg and sipping the local tea. I got a small tea plant there, too.

The nematodes might be making a difference on my plot, because the slug damage is far worse on some other plots. Mice have been on my peas, though. The chief allotmenteer says he does not remember a season as bad as this for pests, so fingers crossed things will get better next year.

I was away for nearly a week and the weeds on the plot are growing like weeds... I need to clear out more beds for plants I still have in pots, but I won't get to do it till Sunday, probably.

I also ordered a second batch of nematodes.

I don't really have anything ripening save for a few pods of broad beans - the mice had the few pea pods and the french beans seem to have given up for now. Rather dispiriting. I did get my first raspberry from the potted plant I have on my patio, though.

I used Nematodes in garden year before last does do really well if kept wet for a few weeks good idea when raining,  have used it for a few years even applied it in rain

Forgot to say sowed some seeds today kale, spinach and PSB  some seeds had a while hope grow

Not thought of using them on the allotment would need a lot to cover the metres but have put down organic slug pellets and like GWRS does in jam jar

My allotment neighbour turned up today with 2 people from Australia must be visiting him, my french beans not done that great since I put them out - fill like the plants don't really like the soil that had rubbish in before
