Caral, your pictures are lovely. you have made great progress for 1 yr. I like the use of arches, I have one that I am growing 2 small apple trees up, will get another for sweet peas.image Whereabouts are you in the UK, scenery looks familiar?

GG, so sorry to hear you got a letter! I had a phone call from our council this week asking if I'd paid my rent (I paid it in January!!)image

if you are struggling to get digging done, you could cover the ground with cardboard and compost or tarpaulin  and grow squash as they take up lots of room We were advised to use this method by the council when starting up.

Gardengirl, but you've done so much clearing out, can't they see that? Can you perhaps provide them with before and after photos?

    A lovely planter.

Wouldn't a quick hoeing session do the trick to get rid of the weeds?

Gardengirl , photos seem like a good idea , hoping it goes well image

what about strimming , would that help , ask the council what they except , was it stated in your tenancy agreement , fight these bureucatic pen pushers

Didn't realise Stagbettle had letter , hope it works out OK as well

    Thinking of you both image

Stagbeetle gave her plot up  (in the last new allotment part) cause too difficult with all the children and is doing an area in here garden for veg

Aster thank you it is probably eaiser to give a fork over to remove the weeds

Going to see if I can hire out a strimmer from the allotment shop as someone donated one will ask next weekend hope so will make a big difference

in agreement at least 50% of plot to be cultivated, planting, growing and look maintained

Managed to get some more digging done even roped in my dad so three of us today for a good few hours even with the cold wind

Going to see if I can sow something direct in ground and get potatoes planted and broad beans

    what has anyone sown direct?

Gardengirl , didn't realise Stagbettle had given up

Put parsnips and beetroot in clouches

Onions ,broad beans and  garlic planted last year but did put in Shallotts this year

Why not put up canes for runner beans , even if could be to early for beans depending on weather image so it looks good

    Best of luck

    Good luck, Gardengirl!

I sowed some dwarf French beans a month ago. I chose a dwarf variety because it is supposed to be dwarf, but the plants are now about 1 metre long each! I suppose I should pinch out the growing tip?

It says Dwarf French Bean 'Tendergreen' on the packet, so they should be dwarf. Clearly they think otherwise.
