Scroggin. You'll be pleased to start growing stuff in your GH when the glass is in.

Aster, the sowing compost from Aldi seems quite good this year, or it certainly is in the store near me.

There was heavy snow in East Lancashire this morning, one of the guys at work had trouble getting in. It was blue skies were I am though.

Zoomer44, I know you mean well, but don't take away the only reason I have to go to my favourite GC! image

Snow? That's difficult to imagine from here, though we did have a bit of hail before the last storm hit.

Zoomer44 I been using Aldi seed compost it is pretty good

Scroggin nice to get your GH up good to get freebies - glad that I did not have the walk in plastic GH up yet in that storm

Aster2 good to go on a trip to GC to have a nice look around

Went to plot cleared and bagged bramble for bin and also had a bonfire - which was all done by the time it rained then hailed on me needed to wash the smell off my coat from the bonfire anyway - still got a few more brambles to bag for the bin to go out next week

We have a working party day on Saturday. The woodland trust have given 30 hedges to plant, there's going to be a skip and bonfire.

Hope the weathers better for everyone.

We had a bonfire on the allotment yesterday too. There's a communal bonfire area, so people don't have to make their own. (Some still chuck their weeds etc. into the hedge. image)

I planted the strawberries! I planted the strawberries!! I planted the strawberries!!! All 30 of them! It took me four hours, but it's done. I am pleased, but not nearly as pleased as the strawberries themselves are, I bet. A nice way to end my Easter holiday. (And I got a lovely purple sage plant in the GC, too.)

Hi all. Lovely sunny weather here, no snow. Planted some young garlic plants and sowed some beetroots and carrots (under cloches)

The guy next door to me with the whole plot he does'nt use was approached by our warden to see if he would split the plot in half. He said no, and has rotivated the lot, so looks very unlikely that I can get any of it nowimage

Our big cedar tree at home is having to be taken down on Wednesday, it died, such a shame to see it go but we will have more sunlight in the garden when its gone.

    Hello

Zoomer44 enjoy your working party on Saturday

Aster2 glad you planted those strawberries hope they fruit nicely for you to enjoy, nice to have a bonfire

Ginagibbs shame no extra bit of land, nice to have sunshine

Went to the allotment plot today sunny weather - levelled off the once rubbish area off the plot with rake then - made it finally back to my plot started digging area for potatoes to go which is good big area to dig, done about just over a metre with lots of bramble roots in and lots of plastic bin bag

Also done a bit of guerilla gardening with ivy up the allotment fences to make a bit of shelter and privacy

I have a friend who is moving half an hour away who also has a 9 month old baby, she's had her allotment 2 years and has offered it to me as officially a share but i don't think she'll be around much... went to se it yesterday, she's made a great start, there are a few redcurrants, 1 raspberry, a quince, a plum tree& there are 4 flat raised beds on a sloping/partially terraced site, but it is almost all grass,in the beds and everywhere, borders a totally empty overgrown plot by the woods and I couldn't let go of my 2 year old, never mind take my eye off him,on one hand it seems a great opportunity, on the other I wonder if I shoul keep waititng ( I am on the waiting list for this allotment site) and say I need something a bit more level where the children can be safe. There's an open day tomorrow so hoping to take hubby to have a look, I also know I will only be able to grow very low maintenance crops ( I'm planning more fruit trees/bushes) any thoughts from anyone I'm happy to hear, I'll let you know!

Do you no what number on the waiting list you are?  if council run allotments see if you can ring and find ou,t also how long it would possible take to get to number 1 , if your are not far off getting a plot on the list I would say wait for a flat plot if possible
