Yes it's not a strong scent but very pleasant, very thorny but lovely glossy dark green leaves and it doesn't seem to attract the usual greenfly or insects.
Hello Tootles. I took the beans out of the pods and simmered them for 5 minutes, drained them, added knob of butter. They were about 1/2" long, you can eat them bigger, but I like them young and tender.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Had a marathon session of weeding, edging and planting today. Finished the upper trellis bed, the end bed, the woodland bed and the lower middle bed. Rain stopped play for a bit, but went out again, came in 30mins ago.

I planted some catmint today. It was in the ground 2 seconds before all my cats were rolling on it. I don't think it's going to survive to maturity :-)
I have planted an Acanthus Mollis in the shade area, I have given it lots of room to grow and am hoping I will not regret it.
I was a bit spooked by something I read that said make sure you plant this in it's permanent position as you will not be able to dig it up once it is established!!!
I have also planted some very lovely pale pink flowered lamium which I found in the local garden centre 3 for £10. I may go back and get some more of those at the weekend.
Discovered that the least faff way of removing greenfly off my Gertrude Jekyll rose is to forget about washing up liquid and picking them off but just to spray them off with the garden hose carefully holding the affected area - works a treat.
A pleasant respite from the heat earlier Pruned some spring flowering shrubs and 'lifted their skirts' to let some light into the under planting of brunnera and geraniums.

Should cover the fence in time.

Hi Busy - how did you have your broad beans? I've got some coming but no idea if they are ready to pick or how to prepare them....
do you boil them?

I managed to cut all my grass in one go! That's the first time since I moved into this house. I was very pleased with myself but my face was puce!!!
My garden is quite big and it was lovely to be "downhill with the wind behind" me for a change.
