Not really gardening per se as the weather has been pants all week and I have been at work - but went out there tonight and netted all my brassicas as those little blighters Mr Pigeon and friends have taken a shine to them all and seriously nibbled them all :-(
Just wish I had managed to get out there sooner..........
Morning! Had a fab Saturday. Started emptying the greenhouse so that I can get my tomatoes and cucumbers in.
spotted a pod on my broad beans! first time of growing them so very exciting. Not sure if they should be picked now or left for a bit.
Am just listening to my local gardening show on the radio and will then get back out there. Just seen my other half off as he's doing a bike ride in Cambridge today.
Everything is growing merrily. Water butts are emptying fast though.
No gardening all week as it's been just too wet for 8 days solid. Been a bit busy with other stuff as there's lots going on here.
The sun has finally peaked feebly thru the haze this pm and I have potted up 3 lots of lilies bought at Chelsea last week - Hot Spot, Nepalense and Salmon Star. All perfumed and designed to contrast with my luscious Firebolt lilies.
Now to cook dinner - roast chuck - and think about which bit of jungle to tackle first tomorrow - assuming it isn't raining again.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
Very busy in the garden, the weeds have gone mad, the foxgloves needed staking, roses deadheading.
Bridge of Sighs rose surpasses my wildest expectations, it flowered before any of the others and is flowering like mad. Once it starts climbing it will be glorious. Nice honey scent too. I definitely recommend it.
Had to spray greenfly as they have gone mad this year, washing up liquid solution got rid of them all.
Planted up a big wicker hanging basket full of marigolds as the slugs eat them down to a nub if they are in the beds.
Fed all the hanging baskets and pots with plant food.
Now to put in some more plants and give the garden a good watering.
Just about to pillar a rose, it's a David Austin, Lady of the Lake. It grows to 15 feet so it's a big pillar.
hi got back at 7 30 this morn with dog cuppa up garden took about 15 weeds out of onions in the membrane watered up pottered about looked over garden pleased . back home to stain and oil the decking outside patio doors .well and truly knackered back hurts lost a few pounds with heat need a lay down Michael
Just patio laying today and a load of junk to the tip. I'm very excited and hoping we will manage to finish it so I can dress the patio and reclaim the area being used as a junk yard. Then this week I need to get back on top of staking and potting on seedlings.
Lovely afternoon visiting NGS open gardens group in Waltham Abbey. Four different gardens of varying sizes. Rather hot today after a very cold week, but found a nice shaded spot in the final garden visited for a well earned sit down with cake and a cuppa
Staining and oiling the decking...just patio laying... You guys all work very hard
Lou, I'd love to see a pic of your Bridge of Sighs rose, if poss? Mine is in its third year, has lots of buds but is the smallest of all my climbers, even the newer ones. I moved it last year and I wonder if I disturbed it...

This weekend I:
decanted some tulips into the ground and potted on the first 3 dahlias into their proper pots
cleared more tolerated weeds from around new plants to let them get a foothold and picked bind and sticky weed off some things
dug up a new phlox being swallowed up by the hedge, don't know where to put that now...
Tapped my foot around things that have been in bud for ages or are flowering one at a time
found room for more of my homegrown plantlets, still got a fair few left
planted some astrantias I found in a pot into the guerrilla zone
watered all roses and clems and topped up the pond like a hero
? Hmm, think that's about all. Just remembered I left two pots of snaps on the soil so will plant them and then p'raps have a cider in the sun

The jobs above all sound pretty hardcore

Just got into bed. Full day gardening. The borders are now chocker block.
Put together a rather over the top structure with canes in the greenhouse for my tomatoes and cucumbers based on Monty's advice on Friday night.
Lots of plants left over. Friends and family will be getting deliveries!
