I've sown my first seeds tonight - some sweet peas which are now out in the growhouse, and a few tomatoes. Also stuck some Acidanthera bulbs into pots which will be undercover for a while too. Still early here for anything much as they won't be able to go outside for ages, so that's about all I'll do for a few weeks.

Will probably do some lettuce and basil  during the next week, and the harebells I got recently.

Newbee - that's the problem with those growhouses. Mine's tied onto the fence with washing line right round the top of it. It's the only way really...image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Sorry about your seeds Newbee - you seem very positive about it thoughimage

If you need to resow perhaps there might be something you want on the seed swap thread.

imageNewbee, same thing happened to me last week, I was delighted to see my seeds beginning to show when the wind just took my greenhouse for a walk and now my seeds are all messed up. Looking forward to seeing how many survive . Learned by that to weigh the greenhouse down a bit better. I actually had two bricks in the bottom of it but obviously that's not enough image. Took advantage of the nice day here in Renfrewshire to plant up some more seeds and give the garden a good tidy up. didn't come in till 6 30pm as it has to rain tomorrow so I never wasted a minute. Don't you just feel great when you have been in the garden all day image

All my plug plants are potted up now, lost count, getting on for 350. Then there are the seeds I've sown, which aren't quite ready to pot up, but lots have germinated.

No rest for us wicked BLimage

  • I managed to get out yesterday in spite of Easter egg hunts. Removed a climbing rose I had been trying to nerve myself up to get rid of for a year! It had a huge tap root like thing so that took ages, also the clearing up afterwards.

Then moved a climbing hydrangea. Planted a hellebore and Leycesteria formosa 'Golden Lanterns' in a shady spot by my shed.

Found a lot of vine weevil grubs and left them for the robin nesting next to my window.

Hoping to get out again today and do some top dressing of my Camellias and other pots.

One sad thing was the discovery that my beloved Acer 'Beni Ubi Gohon' which has been a complete star has probably gone down to verticillium wilt over winter. It only has one large branch left. I had it in a pot and should have left it there--stupid me.

That's sad about your Acer. I hate to lose anything in my garden. I bought a chocolate cosmos last year and overwintered it my hut, planted it up again two weeks ago and brought it indoors and its coming on a treat. Lost one two years ago, by leaving it outside, wont do  that again. Its great how you learn as you go along. I had two Gerbera plants that I got last year and wrapped them in bubble wrap and put them in my plastic greenhouse all winter and hey presto they have started to grow again. Joy image

Busy-Lizzie. that's some amount of plug plants you potted up. Do you have a massive garden to take them all ? You must have been hard at it all day...good on youimage I thought I done ok digging over my garden and I planted some Helenium and Campanula. Last year I started a garden for the bees. I planted Echinacea, Penstemons, Knautia . Got a good few bees. Any ideas on other bee friendly plants to put in?

The biggest bee attraction in my garden is the cat mint by far. It gets covered! Pretty blue flowers too albeit you have to keep it in hand as it is a fast grower. Sooo easy to propogate too.

Linda, I have over an acre  surrounding my old French farmhouse, the main flower garden behind the house is about 50m x50m, but there are other beds, lawns, shrub areas and veg garden on other sides. It's quite a lot of work so the standard of tidiness sometimes isn't very high!
