Managed to get some gardening done this weekend between the football. Really nice unexpected day today. I even took the cannas outside
Pricked out begonia organdy, I got 91 plants out of a 3 inch pot. Potted on fuchsia cutting and some dianthus seedling as well.
Moved a helenium indian summer
Had another seed sowing marathon the other day
Feed plants with FBB and growmore
I trying them wool pellets this year for the slugs, I like the idea but a bag doesn't go far.
Planted some tiger lilys - Virginia creeper - nerines in pots - crinum and guem lady stratheden.
Might get some more Guems, flames of passion and mai tai have caught my eye.
I left my Ricinus seedling in the GH on Thursday night frost forecast, I seem to remember in my sleep woke up a 5 am got dressed and went to the rescue I think I start losing the plot at this time of year
Shame about your Ferns Frank, they still might show fingers crossed.
Thanks Perki.I will keep them in place for a few more weeks before giving up on them entirely.
I wouldn't dare have ricinus in the house given the animals. I am hoping to have the last hedgehog on his way in a few days so I can potter in peace in my GH. I have literally hundreds of packets of seeds to sow. I have always had more success with seeds sown in small pots (don't tend to do pricking out at the right time).
Depends what I am sowing frank, the pot size I use most are 3 inch square and round pots, when I do use small pots or plug trays I avoid direct sunlight they dry out to fast, I will use a tray now again but it depends what I am sowing. I use propagators and windowsills, Gh to cold.
I use vermiculite mixed with potting compost help keep them moist and aerated, I use it as a top dressing sometime on seeds what need just a little covering. I do sometimes leave my seedling to long before pricking out but normally when their big enough or true leaves.
No sun but incredibly warm spring day, got lots of border planting done and split the odd fern/perennial, a bit ad-hoc design wise, but I've tried planning on previous years without much success so we'll see
Washed greenhouse shelves and put up the temporary shelving on trestles for my plug plants which should arrive this week. Put out the heated mat, turned on the heated cable in sand, plugged in the 3 electric propagators and the little electric heater and put all my baby plants from last month and last week's sowing in the GH. They had been on window sills but some started going a bit leggy.
Planted out mangetout peas, sown 1 month ago and sowed some more directly in the earth in veg garden.
Then finished weeding the kitchen terrace beds, and swept a lot of twigs off the paving, fallen off the lime tree.. Kitchen terrace is 15m x 15m.
Planted out some violas and 3 erysimums in the greengage bed.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
nothing done today other than the purchase of some extra strong weed killer to blitz the flat we rent out that has been totally neglected by the last tenants.

What is your most successful seed sowing method?

Sweet peppers & patio dwarf aubergine sown
No chillies needed this year, lots in the freezer.
Begonia corms started off last week in GH, thanks to forum friend for advice.

Must be bad if you've got weeds in the flat Tootles.
No gardening today but renewed green bin subscription down to £30 pounds (was £36 for the 2 previous years).
Hi I have cut down a clematis, I hope its not too late, as there were lots of new shoots, but like a birds nest at ground level.
