  • Turned out nice again after a misty start, although ominously I saw the gritter spreading in the village earlier. Going to put the tender things back in the shed.

My last chicken died during the night, as I suspected she would, so I tidied up all of her stuff and the shed where she had taken to living in the daytime. Going to get rid of her furniture and make a small grassed seating area surrounded by shrubs and large plants and under planted with bulbs.

Went and checked out my blackthorns after reading Fairygirl's comments above, wondered if I'd perhaps mistaken a feather or something for an open flowerimage Have got a few flowers open but not whole twigs of blossom. Noticed one of them has died and has orange spots so will have to get that out. Has been very waterlogged there this winter although everything around it is still alive including a dock previously protected by the blackthorn...that can now be safely removed. Thinking of getting a nice big eupatorium for that space but will ponder on it first.image

despite it being his birthday , Hubby barrowed 4 " dumpy sacks" of compost for me to spread on the front border. I'll take a photo tomorrow. It looks fab.

Lovely sunny warm day here, planted some primroses that I got for 85p, cowslips and a hellebore and my new Osmanthus.  Also bought a new parasol and some cushions... I went a bit mad this weekend....!imageimage

    Hi Hazel

Crocosmia can be divided in Autumn or in early spring. You can remove the woody corms and leave a more recent produced chain of corms or divide the clump with a sharp shovel

    Hope that this info helps

Its been really nice today the weather image, but not really any gardening done.

Been digging out for some steps and a retaining wall in my mums garden, cant really class that as gardening. Put a concrete foundation in as well ready for building wall / steps next week.

I've tended to the seedling, opened the GH door and adjusted the automatic vents I suppose that counts image

I bought some Crocosmia Lucifer from GC not long ago. Looked to plant them up the other day, I got masoniorum and not Lucifer. Looks like someone picked up masoniorum and put them in the Lucifer tray image. Oh well looks like I am going back to the GC image

Lovely, lovely day here in Bath. Moved my very old second hand wooden growhouse and put the new one in its place ready for seed sowing later on. Might try dismantling the old one and using the Perspex sides for protecting plants in situ - perhaps.

Realised that my pots of alliums, daffs and tulips could do with some sunshine so moved them round the front on the terrace. Later on I re-covered vulnerable plants with fleece again as I suspect it might be frosty later on after such a clear day.

Can't wait till tomorrow, hope the weather is just as nice - have a list of 30 odd jobs to do and have only crossed off 4 or 5 so far.

  • Hi guysimage what a lovely day  I didn't come inside untill gone 5. Then only 'coz the back  warned me I'd done enough for one day

Cleared a gravel garden that had been taken over by creeping Jenny  and polythened it ready for new shingle . Removed a dead shrub (forgotten its nameimage) and buried a leggy lavender in its place  found what I thought was a big pot with just last year's compost in only to find it had a good cluster of dahlia tubas in it sorted it  out and sowed some last year's seeds of orange and lemon sherbet bedding dahlia  . Cleared a bed of grasses like Monty suggested .Also I've done so much planning on what to do in the garden this year  my head file is overflowing image just hope I remember what I have thought of doing image dinner, glass of something and country file now (hope I stay awakeimage

Plenty of bits and pieces done - mainly tidying behind the shed. Cleared stuff from the pond, more bone meal-ing and mulching in a few areas.  Repainted the outside of the screen - it's had a battering from the rain, planted out a few small things...

    and watched the robins  image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • Great day out in our garden in sunny Dorset. OH had already raised the existing raised beds last week, and we tacked pond liner to the new sleepers before filling with topsoil (excavated last year when we dug our pond). Loads of compost /manure also went in. Now we can finally  turn the other heap into the empty bin!  Found some potatoes which had been left in/had grown over the mild winter, beautifullly clean, no slugs, but really waxy so not worth eating image.  Bumblebees everywhere, red tail, white tail, black all over. Looks as though my mason bee nest has been plundered, all the stoppered holes have been eaten out.... Disappointed no frogspawn in the pond, despite frogs using it last year. Hope good weather continues next week, list of jobs as long as my arm.
