Oh dear flumpy I do hope you do not have the flu. Sea-saw weather again in Bristol - degrees already and a duckpond on the kitchen patio. Forecast is rain for all day . My bulb delivery was delayed yesterday but just had an email to say it will arrive between 2 and 3 this afternoon. My six perennials from the Secret Gardening Club should come today too. I've put in my hearing aids so I can hear the delivery men at the door! My friend of the tiny garden has sent me pictures of his crocuses and hyacinths He is apologetic about them and sent me last year's pics for comparison as well!. But then he is a perfectionist. Actually i think the mild winter has messed up the bulbs somewhat. I have lots of seedling new snowdrops from the pollination efforts of the bees last year but they flowered earlier this year before pollinators were around. Here are inner city spring bulbs this year.
My summer bulbs and perennials have all arrived and all good. It has not stopped raining all day so will have to wait till tomorrow before I can do anything with them.
White roofs and grass again this morning. It will be a little warmer in the afternoon so should be able to get an hour or two's gardening in. The weekend seems to be going to be warmer.
Good morning Marion (and friends!) from north-west Madeira, where we have had a wild night with hail and gale force winds. Not sure what we'll be getting up to today but it'll probably involve long spells in a cafe, unless the weather relents!
What an amazing profusion of flowers there is to be seen around here! A garden I admired yesterday had daffodils and hyacinths rubbing shoulders with freesias, roses, honeysuckle and king proteas. The seasons seem a bit vague - it's definitely winter - or is it? A ginkgo in the botanic garden was covered in golden autumn leaves when we saw it last week, while oak trees we passed while out walking yesterday were covered in a soft green spring haze.
Keep warm and have a good day!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
I don't think Madeira has seasons like us, just mild wet winters and hot dry summers. They have fields of bananas too I believe! I would be in my element there. I have put my begonia out for a spot of sunshine so i too have mixed up seasons.
Madeira is a flower lover's paradise. We were there last year in May and the Jacaranda (?) trees in the centre of Funchal were in full bloom. A few years ago we went in mid June and the roadsides were awash with Agapanthus.
Your begonia seems to be enjoying the sunshine. I like the contrast of colours with the iris.
Yes Marygold blue and orange are complementary colours on the colour wheel like purple and yellow and green and red. Wally from next door is watching me garden from his vatage point in the sun. Great gardening weather today.
