Looks like old age to me Flumpy and I should know. To make the clump look healthier cut the bad leaves off and make sure they have enough water anf food for big plants need a lot of both. We have another fine day ahead but a little fresher and cooler so good gardening weather. As I was dead heading this morning the street cleaners came round and now our lane is looking immaculate. This usually happens before the judges come round! It was lovely and quiet too as school is now on holiday so no cars on the pavements.
Lots of hanging baskets which I do not do as watering them would be a problem,GWRS. Some lovely long gardens in the lane, one full of yucca gloriosa in full flower. The lane is very long and dissected by a main road so have not been up there to look. No way of knowing if anyone has entered the competition though.
It is a lovely immaculate rectangular lawn with borders and lots of yuccas in them. I have a love-hate relationship with yukkas as my husband when he knew his cancer was terminal begged ten cuttings from the owner and planted them throughout our half acre garden "to protect me"! They are very spiky indeed and grow at an enormous rate so for the last 27 years i have had a battle which often has left me blooded to keep them away from the paths. They flower twice a year - now and at Xmas and are quite spectacular in flower. But they are not a plant for the faint-hearted!
And they are scented Joyce! Gloomy this morning and forecast of rain for later in the morning and this afternoon but the garden needs it. My first nasturtium from the packet I sowed directly into my pots has a yellow flower open so I am expecting more daily now. It was a freebie packet with a magazine but every seed seems to have germinated and made a fine plant.
Yes GWRS we have rain forecast for Wednesday and Thursday and perhaps showers later today. Two pictures this morning of two combinations I am particularly pleased with - a salmon pelargonium with the curry plant in flower and my new rose "Gertrude Jekyll"with the hardy geranium "Cambridge"

Hello , I put water retaining crystals in my hanging baskets , to help from drying out
I get them from pound land
The garden with yuccas sounds interesting ?

Pics of my friend's myrtle tree, now in flower. I have one too which he gave me for my birth
day last year but it is no where near this stage yet.
It has lovely flowers Marion.
