Thanks for the welcome GWRS image

happymarion I will have to sort out some photographs, I have quite a few my hubby has taken over the last few weeks. I need to repaint the walls once some roofing issues are fixed as they are looking a bit delapidatedimage The sparrows seem to like the moss patches though, I presume they use it line their nests.

The Chocolate Ruffles has beautiful foliage, do Heuchera do well in wet winter conditions?

Bloodrose, heucheras do well in Scotland even and you cannot get much wetter and wintry than that.  I remember asking my fater who was very fond f his "Coral bells" because they were such an old fashioned plant what the botanical name was and when he told me I said I would never remember that.  he said all i had to do was remember what we shouted as we danced the eightsome reel which is "Heuch" and I would.  He was right!

Thanks happymarion it is good to know they grow well in Scotland, they should do fine here then. I have had my eye on a couple of the purple varieties but wasnt sure how they would hold up here. They would be useful for some winter interest when all the annuals are finished. I am very new to all this and just finding my way so your help is appreciated.

Bloodrose.  I can verify that heucheras do well in Scotland. Just remove the tatty leaves in spring.

We had a little rain through the night so everything is fresh this morning but no reservoir of rainwater yet.  Another mostly fine and dry day forecast so may have to water quite a few pots.  The weekend weather looks to be good for gardening all up and down the country though.

One of the amazing things that happens when you are nearing 90 is that birthdays that used to last a day tend to last a month or so (I bet her Majesty would agree with that).  I am 88 on !!th August but this morning a phone call from my eldest daughter to alert me to expect a parcel.  sure enough half an hour later it arrived!  I now feel like a Lady of the Manor Gardener.  Penelope Keith comes to mind.  Here it is = a beautiful hand-painted trug with posh wooden painted  labels, a super pair of secateurs with ash handles that are really comfortable to use, knitted gloves with high grip coating and a ball of twine.  Here it is.image

Another beautiful sunny morning and set fair with a few showers perhaps in the evening.  May be a sunhat day today and definitely a watering the pots day.  I will be trying out my new secateurs on the straight branches now hiding the twisted ones in my contorted hazel as soon as the green wheeliebin is emptied.  The bin men did not come yesterday but they have been on a Saturday before.  They are all out on the pavements waiting.  I am not the only one on the lane with a bulging green bin.
