In Surrey! My goodness, Mr. Mahonia, not what you expect in June there! Supposed to be warmer at weekend. My runner beans are ready to be planted in the raised beds so getting wigwams sorted today
Cloudier today but forecast is for dry all day and temperature up to 21 degrees. Pollution is given as moderate and humidity high so probably not so comfortable for the heavier gardening jobs today. Deadheading here I come.
I took my camera with me when deadheading and was so glad i did. i now have three species of candelabra primulas in flower for the first time.- "Apple Blossom" has three tiers and chunengis and beesiana have one so far. The colour of beesiana is brilliant. Just as my lovely purple rhododendron is loosing its charm my pale pink one is starting to open its buds. Hardy geraniums are flowering in their hundreds.
The perfume was the strongest I have ever smelt in the garden due to the humidity and warmth and the mock orange opening its buds.
!5 degrees already and forecast to reach 24 after a very warm night. I must do my gardening in the morning when it will be cooler than the afternoon. I got a great deal done yesterday but may have visitors today.
A good morning in the garden, then roasted a chicken for lunch and made Welsh cakes for visitors. It is now too hot for me to work anywhere but the shade. Still the fernery needs some brambles extracted!
A few pictures from the garden today. My pink lilac in the woodland walk which is always a month behind the purple and the white ,is just starting to flower. It has the strongest scent of all. The new to me "Electric Blue" penstemon is showing is lovely colour. The new sisiryngium is very tall.
Another gorgeous day and we are promised a week of it! Watering cans were out early in our lane this morning as we woke up to 17 degrees. There is a tiny breeze so that might help me keep my cool.
According to the forecast I must complete all outdoor tasks by mid morning or I'll be in a little heap... I don't cope with heat very well, so I'd better get on with it! We mustn't complain though. In comparison with last summer, this is fab! The growth on my veg plants is amazing, and (shh, I'm whispering this!) I've scarcely seen a slug for weeks...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Gosh it is hot out there. I have come in for a glass of cold milk which is supposed to rehydrate you better than anything else! Probably your slugs will be coming out at night to escape the heat Liriodendron and sounds like you have luscious weeds they prefer to your veg!
