Marion, James Wong's article is also in the  Observer magazine.  I would avoid "Mind-your-own-business" as well as the Pratia.

Yes Joyce I spent a good many hours trying to rid the corners of the Botanic Garden of that!

Not much warmer this morning although their is no frost  but not forecast to get above 5 today in Bristol but the forecast for Tuesday to Friday is for much milder.  I will make Xmas cakes for presents today as I enjoyed cooking stews for the freezer so much yesterday. A warm kitchen and warm me and food aplenty for the winter makes up a little for not being able to get out in the garden.

  • Hello Marion!  Your kitchen will smell gorgeous by the time you've baked your cakes.  One of the best things about preparing for Christmas, in my opinion.

Surprisingly, I can't keep Pratia going in my garden.  Little slugs love it to death...  Wouldn't dare trying "Mind your own business" though.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Good to hear from you Liriodendron!  It is 6 degrees this morning in Bristol but foggy.  Still the forecast is for 10 this afternoon so I should be able to get out in the garden.  Much as I love cooking I would rather be out in my garden with my plants and wildlife.  i just exist indoors by myself but live when I am out with the birds and my fox and squirrels.  It will be mild enough for a few insects today too.I am expecting my new alpine plants today.  I have a long list I want but my budget will not stretch to buying them all.  I did get £10 garden voucher by writing a letter to Amateur Gardening Weekly the other week so perhaps more "gardening journalism" as my friend calls it would help get my supplies.  I have a friend who loves to take me out to spend my "money" at a garden centre when I have saved a bundle as I let her buy something for her own garden off it.

Hello Marion. I'm glad you have your laptop back. I like your owl photo. My daughter had the Generous Gardener, it's a beautiful rose, now on my wish list.

You will have a perfumed kitchen today, instead of a perfumed garden!

    Your alpine plants sound exciting.

I'm still in the middle of planting tulips, had rather a lot, and now there are Christmas cards to write.
