Pricked out some rather leggy looking cosmos purity and started preparing another bed for cut flowers. It's west facing against a fence so going to grow sweet peas up the fence and cornflowers, asters and nigella at the front. Might do some direct sowing tomorrow. Planning very carefully as I need flowers for end of August so staggering sowings should work out ok. I find cosmos keep going and just get better as long as flowers are picked or deadheaded.
cant wait to hear about everyone's results. My seedlings are powering on. Wish it was warm enough to harden them off but the temperature seems to have dropped a fair bit here.
Tootles I've not grown Ammi before. Thought I'd read somewhere they didn't like root disturbance so have not started mine off indoors. Is it okay to sow them in llittle pots and transplant out later? Can't imagine they're that fussy. I've sown my Zinnia in fibre pots for the same reason. Haven't grown them before either. would be grateful for any advice.
HI peeps, glad I found this thread coz I'm also gonna have a go at a cut flower bed....
Sounds like I need to get a move on, I haven't sown much compared to you all! I ve got two different types of cosmos which have germinated and some 'red sun ' sunflowers. I've bought a few dahlias ( a first for me) and some gladioli ( another first).
Will give myself a kick up the rear and get sowing when I can this week ????, have only got one heated propogator( purchased just a couple of weeks ago) and that has peppers in it....really impressed with it and now wish I'd bought more.
Love to see pics.....thanks for yours Tootles.... Look forward to seeing more!
Hi Ashdale, you're right about Ammi. I put these in the heated propogator two weeks ago and they are tiny compared to other seedlings. Potted them up and the roots were very long. All trial and (a lot!!) of error for me! Let me know how yours get on.
Hi, Woo.....you're not behind....I think we're all a bit ahead of ourselves! Seeds soon sprout in a heated prop. Looking forwards to seeing and hearing how you get on.
