Ist copper vase.  I have a total of six  on order, but two are brass. I need at least 8 for the tables.

Peony from the garden next door. Must be 40 years old. The previous owner called it his "Peony rose" Alliums from small bulbs I lined out in the veg plot to bulk up a bit. Forget me nots everywhere. yellow flowers are from old kale plants that need pulling out but are providing nectar for bees.

These will be the tables I need the centre decorations for.The windowsills are about 18 inches deep so I need something big for those.  At the moment I am thinking Dahlias and cosmos should still be going in early october. Mum has a load of crysanths I can nick. I'm thinking that I have eucalyptus leaves, Rose hip sprays, red hazel leaves for packing. I will have some canna and banana leaves, but they may be a bit tropical and not give the autumn look I want to achieve. Any other ideas for October flowers?

Lovely vase full, Fidget. Michaelmas daises, heleniums? Annuals before the first frost - ? zinnias.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

I only had 8 zinnias germinate out of the packet of free seeds. very poor.

I sowed some cerinthe today, I hope they will be late. I haven't got michaelmas daisies, they always get mildew and dont do well on my soil.

I have a Helianthus laetiflorus.  Last year it only had one flower, but this year it has sent up about 12 shoots in quite a wide spread. I suspect it could be invasive.

Last year at that time the yucca sent up a flower spike. I suspect it wont do it again this year. Now that would be a centrepiece.

    Thanks Ashdale.

on the zinnia front, I planted seeds (from chilterns) and bought plugs (from Sarah raven). The seeds have done ok but not brilliant, bit leggy but then mine usually are. The plugs haven't done so well. Had to have a second batch sent and 60% have died off. Great customer service with Sarah raven. Prompt email reply, offer to replace or refund so can't grumble at that. They said that their nursery was aware of a problem. Just wondering if anyone else is having a poor zinnia year so far?

I planted 10 seeds from the free zinnia seeds in the mag and 8 germinated which I was pretty impressed with actually!

How are they coming on Flower Girl? Do you have them inside?  Some of mine grown from seed are starting to die off with a dry grey almost spotted problem on the leaves.

My zinnias are about 2 inches tall and look ok one has come out with strange leaves, but not the GW seeds as I forgot to sow them still inside the mag somewhere - some mixed colour seeds

    Fidgetbones what a nice vase

    Hi Gardengirl

sounds like yours are doing well.  I ended up with four raised beds but have given two over to veg. I rally want to start planting out but worried it's still a bit too early.  Have you got yours going outside yet?
