Sorted the strawberry bed when we got back from the lunch party. Soil had gone very heavy, what happened to last year's manure and compost? image Dug in a lot more and planted some new strawberries.

Cold and very windy today but planted 96 onion sets which were started in modules in the GH to prevent birds pulling them out.  Also got another 2 rows of broad bean plants in just before the rain started.  Then sheltered in the potting shed and pricked-out a couple of dozen dahlia seedings and 6 Japanese quince seedlings grown from a fruit I left on the mother plant all winter.  image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Saturday was the first day I had been able to get away from assignments for a while and although cold and raining managed to lift and pot some heeled-in bare root native hedging to make room for the OM new (2nd hand) shed.  Also got chitted second-earlies into potato bags and 3 'Autumn Bliss' raspberries into a container.  I haven't grown raspberries before - any tips?  Lots still to do but assignments come first!

Thanks Verdun, I didn't know about cutting them down to the ground.  They are in a container in a sunny position so hopefully will bear some fruit later in the season!

My raspberries seem to like rose fertiliser. If they are in a container don't forget to water them regularly.
