Yes I was clearing the last tree leaves from flower beds, I fear with all this mild weather fungal problems will affect our garden this year.  I did some weeding on the gravel drive,  I aim to remove the hellebore leaves when I get the time.

We moved in November, and most of our time has been taken up with getting the house sorted/Christmas etc.  But yesterday, in what has been a rare break in the rain, I managed to get into the garden.  Discovered an overgrown path, pruned a neglected rose and severely pruned a butchered shrub of unknown provenance!  It had had some branches partly cut through and then ripped down, and another part half-sawn through and then just left.

I guess previous owners weren't much into gardening!  image

Very dark up here in the NE though rain holding off, garden still soggy and having had a good clean up in the late Autumn is presentable apart from the north fence being on the ground. Next doors problem and in hand although little dog next door keeps popping in, no problem he thinks I am his dad.

In this area we never think of starting anything until my birthday February as we often have very cold spells, plenty of time, let things start to awaken first.

I'm being good and cleaning house so I can garden tomorrow.  Newly retired OH has been out there though and has turned a compost heap so he can dump a large bucketful on each of our 8 rhubarb crowns which are showing buds already and I will use the rest to mulch the roses in the front bed tomorrow - after we've replaced the two broken trellis panels and had a good weed.

  • I've been back to work today. Not had chance to do any gardening over the holidays because it's been so wet where we are. I really want to remove the leaves on the helebores.
