It was dark today, I shall have to put my headlights on if it's even darker tomorrow

BTW tsk @ you Verdun. Dicentra Spectabilis is now called Lamprocapnos Spectablis.

I still call it Dicentra, I'm too old to keep up these days.

    Devon.

Verdun, that made me laugh. image I thought you were such an expert, made me feel better, sounds the sort of thing I might do. I will always called Dicentra, can't spell the new name.

Eclipse at 10.30 here in France, but drizzle is forecast. Think I'll either go to supermarket or do housework, scared of looking at it.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

The Moon starts covering the Sun at 8.27 (at my location) and the Sun is fully uncovered again at 10:41.  It will get quite dark at the maximum, more so the farther you are North.

Last time (16 years ago) I remember it went very cold and the wind changed noticeably.

Warning: it is dangerous to look directly at the Sun even when it is 90%+ obscured, so don't be tempted even with sunglasses or a welding mask!

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Bob, the other thing I remember about the eclipse 16 years ago, was the birds coming in to roost.

Very creepy feeling these eclipses give me. We had a total eclipse some years back. That surreal darkness gives me the shivers.

Did some gardening on my half day to-day.

Tilled and made furrows for my second earlies "British Queens". Will plant them over the weekend with added FYM and potato manure.

I never would have dreamed it Verdun

As for my errors, plants went on my merry-go-round again today with my  4yr old acer doing a few turns now. Let's hope I've cracked it this time image

As for eclipses, I remember the light being very weird, like a spooky cold glow. Really surreal

I spent time yesterday digging my pea bed and adding well rotted horse manure to two beds and later sowing lots of flower seeds

  • Well I grew some lettuce indoors for a few weeks and then popped them into my raised bed a couple of days ago.  Something has eaten all but one.  I haven't had anything eat lettuce seedlings before and I have never started them off indoors before.  Is there a connection??  Started some more indoors and this time will use my cloche for protection.
