  • That fruit looks grand, flowers in the rainimage

Hope you enjoy your holiday GWRSimage

Yesterday was my first day off from work (image) and had a great day pottering around, nice and sunny too for a change.

Finally planted out a loosestrife Fishy sent me months agoimage had to clear an area for it first, planted out some new orpines I made from chopping up another orpine- they are fab plants, one of my faves. Planted some Allium sphaero I dug up from elsewhere, realised this morning I'd forgotten to put the summer drummers with them so will have to wade back in todayimage Also moved a rodgersia, hope it'll do better now.

Pondering the plan of attack for todayimage I'd best put kettle on.

  • Looks like I'm the only one who's been gardeningimage

Moved some stuff around, planted around 250 bulbs mostly the offer ones on here, lovely day again, had to have a cider in the gardenimage

Planted out some Thalictrums grown from seed sent by fidgetbones, power weeded the front garden and have almost decided on two new climbing roses to cover a bit of fence...

A good day all in allimageimage

  • I was out there Victoria Sponge. image Mostly weeding my rockery which took ages, all the weeds are tiny and try and hide in with the plants, but I got all out (mostly). image

Had a go at some bamboo too, a constant battle image no matter how hard I try it still comes back - in all the wrong places. I curse the people who planted it on a regular basis. image

Muck spreading tomorrow, won't I smell nice. image

Yesterday I spent a short spell clearing weeds and harvesting surprise potatoes from a veggie bed that is becoming a nursery bed whilst I clear some serious weeds form the garden.   Split and plated some hemerocallis there.

Today I spent 6 hours out there plantng lots of baby PSBs and some strawberry babies then clearing a sheltered, south facing bed of weeds and moved some anchusas to another bed where their size is more appropriate.  Pulled out some verbascum phoenicum and faded aquilegia, moved some peonies and hellebore around to give them more space and filled the gaps with a  deep red potentilla.  Found lots of bunched up, over crowded bundles of white muscari and snowdrop bulbs so split them and re-planted them.

Cleared a load of excess pink geraniums from another bed and planted a new white rose and the anchusas.    Potted up spare anchusas and hellebores.

A good day's work but knackered now.

Harvested masses of blackcurrants and bush tomatoes ( yes I really do have loads)

cut back lavender spikes, ( 2 beds still to go)

decided not to dump all the baskets as there is still so much colour.

    just enjoyed the glorious dayimage

Have had a go at sewing lupins by giving the hard seed shells a nip with a stanley knife. Also sewed some foxglove seeds.

Tidying up my pots and general pottering about!  Have come in to decorate a chocolate cake and stew some apples ready for freezing for some winter crumble.

I love this time of year.

Sitting here in a "glowing" lather having cut the big grass. Got it done in 3 hours and that includes a run to the dump with the trailer overflowing. Still have to take the second load and then get on with some "froo froo" or sissy gardening. Prepping my Winter pots, deadheading, tidying.....

Tidying and deadheading mainly but also put in some border supports for cosmos and dahlias.  Then had to water as everything is so dry.

Winter hanging baskets done with cyclamens, variegated ivy and an unidentified ornamental grass with tubular leaves.   Some other stuff potted up for swaps, mainly large, double orange hemerocallis brought by my garden guru who is having a clear out at home and some anchusas from my garden.

Have moved new roses I'm keeping in pots for the first year to the front where they will get more sun and warmth until it's time for them to go into shelter and a about to cut the grass.

Lots of standing and pondering too - about shrubs and bulbs.
